Title: Dynavin N6 thoughts!
Post by: tommy_d on August 12, 2014, 09:43:25 pm
I recently decided to upgrade my standard RCD300 Headunit, Id looked down the path of an RNS510 unit but decided it was too much hassel (canbus upgrade etc).

I didn't want to buy a cheap ebay special so i took a chance at buying a dynavin N6 unit.

The fitting was simple enough after routing all the ipod leads, Bluetooth microphone and sat nav Aerial.

I know people on alot of the forums do not rate the old units, But i find this headunit brilliant it is fast the sat nav works great. I like the simplicity of it and how it looks OEM+.

I half expected the sound quality to be rubbish, but its brilliant and sounds amazing with the Eddy speakers.

Here is a link to the unit: http://www.dynavin.com/products/n6_vw.php

Anyone has an questions or opinions please feel free to reply.

Tom

Hi, just bought one of these after seeing this but just wondering if it works with the mfd, parking sensors and the climate control?

Thank you, I wasn't sure if it actually does work or if they need updating.

They are on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2054897.m570.l1313&_nkw=Dynavin+N6-VW&_sacat=0

would be nice to know if anyone has got one installed and to see how it compares up to the rns 510

Any canbus problems or battery drain? Am I right in inking this has Bluetooth in the head unit and you don't need a separate Bluetooth unit?

Had been looking at the Dynavin N6 myself recently. Tom, any issues with it since purchase, or still good? Particularly the quality/ease of use of the ipod and bluetooth. Do you get full search facility from your ipod?

Is it only auto-electronics that sell them in the UK? I'd need to get someone to fit (however simple it is, I'm not doing it!), so would need to find someone to fit-only. Ideally I'd get it from somewhere supply and fit if I could, and be able to look at / evaluate / "touch and feel" for quality of materials and how it will look in the car etc (yes, I am picky, but hell this is £500 once paying for fitting).

Considering one of these as an alternative to the RNS315 to replace my RCD300 so interested to hear your experiences.

Couple of questions:
Does it have the same power behaviour as OEM - ie stays on when you switch the engine off, goes off when you take the keys out?
You mention a microphone - I thought it had a built in one, but does it come with external too?
Does it increase the volume as road speed increases, as per OEM? That's a seemingly minor feature I'd really miss!
Does it have voice dialling? I read somewhere that it uses a Parrott BT chip so would be surprised if it didn't...?
Did you get the DAB tuner?

Cheers  :happy2:

Yeah, it only turns off with the key (or off button lol)

I think it does have a built in one but also comes with an external one

I am not sure one this as only fitted it last night but will see tonight

As above really
Did you get the DAB tuner?
No, you have to pay extra for DAB and digital tv
Cheers  :happy2:

Hope this helps if you are still thinking of it  :happy2:

Cheers  Still thinking! Realising that to get all the features I want, I really need an RNS510, OEM sharkfin and OEM Bluetooth module, but that would be well over a grand so will have to compromise!

Hmm, I wish I’d have seen these before buying my RCD 510 DAB actually. They look great, very OEM looking and seem to have a lot of features and functions. Oh well, I’ll stick with the RCD 510 DAB, but I’d be interested to hear further thoughts on these.

Perhaps someone could make a Youtube video of the unit in use, functionality, how the menus look, how it all works and flows etc.

I just installed one of these. Has anyone had any issues with battery drain as mine has gone flat since I installed but I'm also not driving the car as I've had an ankle operation. I don't know which is the culprit.

My upgrade plans have been on the back burner, but just wondering how the OP is getting on with the Dynavin?

Sorry for reviving an old thread, Gherber3 was it due to your canbus? Keen on getting an N6 but too little info around.

This looks like just the ticket!
Been speaking to the company that sells them to be sure I'm right this time!!

Would be great to hear from an owner though?

How are people finding these now, that they've been out for a while?

Is there a new one due or anything better that has came out recently?

Ok, I'll update for those interested, I've bought 3 radios to far since Xmas, I've tried a Zenec nc 2010, returned it as the fakra socket was snapped, & two Erisin units, first was lost in post, second lasted 1 day.
So this search for a new radio constantly made me look at the Dynavin N6, the Dnx 521/5 dab & the blaupunkt philedelphia.
This one I bought came up installed & then removed, still have original receipt & still in warranty so I figured it was worth a punt.
So far I've used the car twice since its been installed it has parrot BT & I've installed the mic just above the steering wheel, very easy to run the cable (built in mic too)
Phone syncs straight away & calls are clear & good quality, not something I found with the erisin. Sat nav is the standard Igo software, not tested that yet but it looks good & is pretty quick.
I'll use it a lot more this weekend & can check out more of the units features & list my findings on here, but so far I'm very impressed. :happy2:

Any further thoughts now that you've had it for a while? I'm leanings towards these in favor of the RNS510 but it seems there aren't that many people with them.

Also, has anyone heard of /experienced any power draining with these units or is that just with newer models OE units?

I'm not 100% sure if it's battery drain, but my alarm went off 3 times the other night, & the car had reset all the radio stations..

How to tell if it's battery drain or a dodgy battery?

I'v had a Dynavin N6-VW for 3 years and it has no failed with the white screen issue. Really disappointed as i paid £410 as it was supposed to be a superior unit. Think I'll go for a cheaper unit next time.

If anyone is bothered I have had one replaced due to screen issues and as soon as it went out of warranty the bluetooth stopped working and now everything just crashes all the time and that's with the only update I could get hold of for it. I've had it for about four years and it cost me £450. Now using an rcd510 dab I had. If you can afford it I would suggest going with either the rcd510 or better still the rns510.
