A friend of mine has just rang to ask if I will scan his mk5 gt as he says his ABS light has just popped up and stayed on... Could this be the dredded ABS pump... Cheers.
-
If i remember correctly...the traction light will also stay on if the pump is the problem
Get the car scanned for the g201 fault
-
I bet its a loose seat airbag wiring. Quite common but only way to confirm is with a scan
-
Ah forgot about the wiring under the seat... Will do a scan for him and see what comes up.

Car is an 04 GT Did a scan and came up with this :scared:

I believe VW now have a kit available to fix this as well. Much cheaper than a new ABS unit.
Here is a how to http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/190784-how-to-repair-espabs-fault-with-vag-repair-kit/

Hi, vw now usually cover this under warranty if it's the G201 sensor fault. Vw now do a kit that replaces the hydraulic part of the abs unit. They'd have to do the initial check to follow warranty procedures as long as this is the fault then it should be covered! Give your local dealer a call :happy2:

Ive got this fault on my jetta, happend today, was driving along then noticed the ABS and Traction light up, drove home turned the car off and back on now only the ABS light is on? Havent taken it out since but my guess will be the traction light will come back on. Hope its not going to cost an arm and a leg as i really cant afford it :-(
-
when this happenned on mine i went to bba reman who gave me a reconditioned unit for around 100quid with a lifetime warranty
-
Done this on mine earlier this year at a cost of around 150 euro
Few vw dealers on ebay that supply them
-
Thanks for all the info guys, I have passed on the good news about the repair kits and reman units, Made him feel a bit better as he has been told 4 figures to repair it... Not sure VW will want to know as it has no VW service history, But you never know it may be worth a try.

Fitted a repair kit yesterday to a 57 plate jetta with only first service Vw. 89k on clock and was covered so worth a try.

Fixed mine today, got it scanned with vagcom, it was the rear right abs sensor on mine.
