Title: Help! Car is Delocked & Battery is dead
Post by: fazmufc on August 13, 2014, 10:16:27 pm
Hi guys,

I have had my golf 2004 MK5 3 door manual for 6 years now. The previous owner for some reason decided to delocked the car.

I recently been away for few days and come back to find my car is completely dead. I tried to open it with the key but there is no lock anywhere I can find to put key in. Also the fob works but as battery is dead it cant unlock the car.

So wondering what is the best way to get in maybe through the front bonnet by somehow opening it (not sure if that is possible)? Any better suggestions?

Thanks

There's every possibility you'll have to seek professional lock smith's help. Maybe contact your local police and ask them if they can break into your car for you as they have the means to do so I believe. Obviously, have your V5C and all other documents to hand to prove you own the car! Failing that ask VW if they know a way to get into the car without using the locks.

Also, go find the previous owner and slap them for being so foolish.

There is a way of doing it without damaging the bonnet.

Your best bet will be to call the AA or seek guidance from VW, but don't go trashing your car in order to gain access  :happy2:

I'd get the bonnet open in order to boost the battery so you can unlock.
There's a few threads with details of how to get bonnet open.

bit of an over reaction as usual from admin, you still need the keys i'm only telling him how to power up the battery !!

and it would work to put 12v back in the car thanks.

I agree, SI didn't mention anything about actual locks, just how to get power into the battery! Not like the old days where a 45cm metal ruler was all you needed to get into cars... Now I'm showing my Essex boy side! :happy2:

Check the passenger side.  You can take the cap off and there is another lock there I think.

Here's a video I've quickly found on youtube.  Hopefully the previous owner missed it when he delocked it.

Also I'm not 100% sure if there is one there as I've never looked on my car and the car in that video is LHD but I've heard others mention it before in the UK.

Great news and Bad news.

I have managed to get the bonnet open but the issue now is the key FOB does not seem to work. I can see the red light on the driver side flashing now, so thought it will automatically read the key FOB when i press button but it hasnt.

Any ideas what could have happened, has it reset or needs snyching again? Just a nightmare this issue is.

If you think we over react on a regular basis, then there are plenty more forums you can visit.  :happy2:

A couple things, 1 - our key FOBs will need to be recoded if you have tried locking/unlocking it with out power to the car (or out of range) for a considerable amount of times.  No idea how many presses it would take to reset the FOB, but I ended up doing it once on vacation and when I came back to LHR, well was a pain to get back in my GTi.  And 2 - if the previous owner de locked (I'm assuming shaved the locks) there will be a push button hidden to pop the doors open.  My old Eclipse had two locations, but they vary; I'd check, the wheel wells; under the drivers door; or search around for an easy-ish to reach to, but out of the way location to place a push button.  Anyone who shaves doors, has to put one of these in, just gotta try and find it.  Good luck mate!
