Title: Help with coilovers and drop links
Post by: Waynegtimk5 on August 14, 2014, 05:04:30 pm
Hi people
I'm getting coilovers at the weekend second hand, I only want to fill the arch gap so not mega low but low enough,I'm I was just wondering do I need shorter drop links or will my standerd ones be fine?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Depends how low.  40-50mm you'd be ok any more than that I'd get some shortened ones.  I'm currently running standard ones as my FK ones died and they are constantly hitting the bottom arms and the ARB isn't functioning at all.

Sorry to jump on your tread. Was wondering if getting shorted drop links would eliminate the problem  of where the antiroll bar is hitting the arm? As this seems to be happening to mine at the moment and is making the car feel very unstable and terrible handling  :happy2:

Yeah shortened drop links will pull the ARB up and stop the contact with the bottom arms :).  I keep meaning to buy some every payday but keep forgetting.  When I'm going round long sweeping bends if I'm doing a bit of speed the car doesn't feel gripped to the floor at all.

Also here's a photo of how low I am.  Obviously it's a Jetta but it's exactly the same as a Golf, just with a boot lol.

That sounds exactly the same problem. So i will buy some shorter drop links and hopefully that will sort out the problem. Was going to raise it up but maybe able to keep it where i am

I am roughly about the same height, maybe abit higher on the front. This is what i can just about see of my problem  :ashamed:

Had them on my car didnt like them 1 bit the adjustment is easy enough to use but the locking nuts kept on backing off even after use several differnt loctites, standard ones are back on for now untill I can justify buying the whiteline ajustables

Brought some FK ones off venom sport and found they wouldnt come in time cause i need them for next weekend. Just  this morning brought the ones in the ebay link. Will just have to see how they go. Cant see them making th car worse to handle than it already feels lol.
