Title: S3 cooler alloy ends or plastic ends does it make a difference?
Post by: 18Edition30 on August 14, 2014, 07:58:14 pm
As above would I loose any benefit from having plastic end tanks over alloy ones?

Just been offered one with plastic end tanks that's all!

Don't know much about the plastic ones, must still be benefit over standard edition 30 one?

Thanks

Maybe wrong but think the pastic end one is from a golf r.. If ur not getting it cheaper or much cheaper get a full alloy one

I thought the plastic ends one was the newer revision?
People have their opinions but I don't think there's proof yet that's it's worse than the metal one?
I think the dimensions are the same so the difference will not be noticeable. Maybe the plastic one could be weaker? Not sure...

Core size is what's important. I doubt plastic end tanks make that much difference on identical cores

Theres just something what makes you not want plastic ends

Early s3 coolers were all alloy, the part number got revised with plastic tanks. However, the core stayed the same. It is larger tubing compared to normal golf/ed30 cooler.

You can still buy the alloy ended cooler from Audi. Wasn't really a revised part, just a change of part.

Hi-jacking this post, is there much difference between the S3 intercooler and the one used on the Golf R20? Having a read there's variations between the two, with the S3 being the biggest core, the Golf R20 being slightly larger than the GTI one but unsure if that's right?

Fair enough :)
