hola folks!
currently driving a modded r53, i need a bit more space for the rugrat n mutt. so been looking over whats out there.
mkv looks like the best of the bunch, the last VAG i owned was a scirocco scala so its been a while.
hopefully these pages will point me in the right direction for not buying a dog.
budget for the car is about 5.5k, plans will be 300+bhp, pss9`s and and lotsa noise!
just need to part this out and i can beging the search..

Welcome
If you want +300BHP you are better looking for an ED30 as just a remap takes it to this, but the budget will need a bit of an increase. To get this power plus more from a normal GTI then you need to throw a bit of money at it.
Saying that, I am just about to put an ad up for my bros' Leon Cupra which is also a K04'd car :happy2:
-
yep i know the 30 would be easier to tune, but part of the fun of owning a car is pulling it to bits and improving it.
so a standard gti will do, and ill upgrade the parts needed as time goes by.
-
The Cupra is great fun :driver: Already Ko4 and probably cheaper than the Ed30
-
Welcome, nice looking motor there, bet it corners well.
Regarding your requirement, it's unlikely you will get 300+bhp from the normal GTI K03 turbo even at Stage 2+
However, if your budget allows, look for an Edition 30 or Pirelli with K04 turbo, these can hit 290+bhp with just a decent map; Stage 2+ can see about 360bhp
A cheaper alternative are the Seat Cupra with the K04 and the same tuning potential. :happy2:
the mini is brutal, sticks to the road like glue, but just too small.
not too keen on the looks of the leon, but good to know i can visit the breakers yards and rob a bigger turbo from it!
-
Yeah, there's a lot of part sharing as you can imagine. The K04 cars do have stronger internals though.
Nice upgrades from the S3; bigger brakes, better intercooler, lighter wishbones.. etc. etc.
Good luck with your search, personally, I'd look for one with Xenons, Multi-function steering wheel and High-line Instrument panel... retro fit the rest. :happy2:
xenons will be a must, standard headlights on the mini are woeful and night hoons are hard work!
tbh ive spent more time tinkering with the mini than driving it, and the same will go for the 5, i dont do a lot of miles, i have a van for that, what sort of miles can these run to? my old scirocco scala had 150k and was still running well when i got rid. if i bought a 5 with 100k would i be in for world of pain?

This would do you nicely wouldn't it Zircon?

i think the golf is better looking. and i dont want a red `un, they always end up salmon pink.
-
I recognize the preference, I was of the same opinion for years. I linked because that's a lot of 240hp for 7 bags :happy2: (plus it has Xenons  )
Regarding the pink - nope, not if you look after the paintwork properly and keep the bodywork kosher with the right products :happy2:
-
Was just thinking 6.5 years old. Never had the luxury of a garage but mine is still glossy red

Welcome mate, buy a GTI then do the KO4 conversion but obviously the engine wont be as strong as an Edition 30. :happy2:
