Title: VW's Anti roll Bars
Post by: cloud11 on August 17, 2014, 04:56:11 pm
Hi guys,

I was just wondering if there are variations in the roll bars from the 1.9tdi and the GTI, I have a 1.9tdi and I wanted to upgrade the roll bar to the gti roll bar, as I got it for free and thought hey why not! Problem is my mechanic seems to think when it's bolted up it'll hit the drive shafts? or the wish bones (he wasn't clear)

My question is, is there any variance between the roll bars on golf models, as the ARB is from a 08 DSG and I have a 04 1.9 tdi, I was under the impression every roll bar is the same (apart from thickness and the 4WD models)

Very confused!  :ashamed:

They're different between models.
The gti one will be thicker than the 1.9tdi one.
The difference is in thickness, and the thickness of the wall of the bar, as most oem arbs are hollow, apart from 4wd which are solid.

that's what I was thinking, only the thickness's are different...

oh well i'll put the roll bars by each other and see if the ends are "different angles" honestly just think my mechanic is a bit silly tbh, wish I had a car ramp and the right tools, I'd do it myself!   :stupid:

Sorry, my reply might have confused the matter.
They look identical next to each other. The thickness only varies by millimeters.
Actual fitment is the same though. So you can fit a gti arb to a non gti golf.

Fair enough! turns out the mechanic was using my old smaller drop links instead of the gti ones I gave him  :fighting:
