Post by: K9 on August 20, 2014, 08:23:19 pm
hey, buying from a m8 oem xenon headlights to fit my golf mk5 gti with halogens. do they just plug-n-play? i currently have a set of h7 cobra xenons with ballasters here home. will they fit? and can i use my old light level motor to the oem xenons?

Hiya mate. Ive just done this so am happy to answer your questions.

You need a kufatec loom or similar. Halogens have 10 pin connectors and xenons have 12. So you need this adapter to accommodate the change. After this you plug them in and code them in via Vagcom.

And to answer your next question with regards to the headligh level motor, no you cannot retain use of that functionality.

Cheers,
Faz

Agreed, sounds like you have a HID bulb kit an dnot the actual Headlight Units themselves. Picture would definately help!

The headlights that are coming tomorrow are OEM xenon projector headlights without any ballasters or bulbs ( 1 oem buld comes ) but i already ahve a set of cobra h7 xenon kit that i used in my old mk4 gti golf with depo projectors.
will that help anything?

IMO the h7 kit wont fit oem xenon's the head lights need xenon lamps and their not h7 so I think you have a problem

what xenons do they take?

I had to purchase a bulb recently, and it was an Osram D2S bulb, so not the standard H7 type.

but can i install oem halogen bulbs in then as long as i'm searching for correct xenon kit?

I don't believe you can. You should be able to put halogen bulbs in the main beam section, but I don't think you will be able to connect without the bulbs!

soouu... how will i make this work out? i know they are oem xenon headlights, can i make it fit fit cobra xenon conv kit with d2s xenon bulbs?

edit: found this set -> will it work http://www.xenonkauppa.fi/epages/Kaupat.sf/fi_FI/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Xenon/Products/%22Muutossarja%20D2S%22

you need matching starters for the oem lights IMO  , in h7 kits the starters take their trigger power from plugging male spade connectors into the h7 plug that normally plug on to the h7 bulb you wont have that in OEM xenon's , and even then you have the canbus bulb out system to deal with , look for OEM starts and bulbs then the adaptor wire will work

so the linked xenon set wont work? they are d2s with d2s adapters :/
Title: Re: Fitting OEM xenon headlights
Post by: Carpy25 on August 21, 2014, 06:14:56 pm
normally kits have bases around the bulbs that fit h7 slots in the headlights oem xenons will have d2 slots , even if they do fit I cant see how your going to power the kit starters ,and  I bet the canbus wont like it if you get around that so you'll end up with a bulb warning light on the dash all the time

think your cheap xenon fix is looking expensive sorry , if your mates got the headlight how did he use them without starters

if i buy the aftermarket cobra xenon d2s that comes with adaptors and ballasters etc, everything needed i guess. the buld itself is a d2s based, so dosnt it go stright into the oem place?
edit: if i buy 2x these bulbs http://www.xenonkauppa.fi/epages/Kaupat.sf/sec8da575452a/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Xenon/Products/%22Osram%20D2S%204300K%22

still cant see how you will power the aftermarket kit from the standard harness sorry to keep chucking in problems but better to sort a way before you start spending money

or should i hunt for oem ballasters and bulbs?

This is probably the easier and probably cheaper (in the long run) solution.

temp fix put the kit on your standard headlights lots do this not the best due to the light spread but better than standards then wait until your pickup OEM ballasts and any D2 bulbs will work with them

do you know the part nr for oem ballasters + d2s bulbs? then only thing i need is the 10 to 12pin adapter right?
i dont need auto-leveling crap :) :P
EDIT: buying them becouse they are oem projector lights from hella and goes for 150£ from a vw worker :)

you will also need the oem harness from the ballasts to the bulbs and after market have ballasts and Igniters combined don't know if oem are separate or not

you may need this as well one each side ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AL-BOSCH-OEM-XENON-BULB-IGNITOR-2-PIN-D2S-D2R-Part-no-1-307-329-054-/271098871152?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f1ec07d70

only ever fitter after market and that had one unit with  bulb connected and two wires from same unit that plugged into the halogen bulb connector

how about these bulbs ballasts and wiring harness Plus adaptors ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Golf-Mk5-Xenon-Headlights-R32-Gti-Edition-30-/261570048909?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ce6ca338d

could work out cheaper as you can sell bits you don't need

Rob
