Title: Wheels, wheels, wheels
Post by: Oli on November 02, 2009, 09:45:13 pm
As some of you already know, I have been lucky enough(thanks MonkGTI) to get hold of a brand new set of Black Monza II Detroit's, for my Edition 30.  I have always liked these alloys and would have been my alloy of choice if I purchased my car new, and they were an option???

My car now;

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi60.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh8%2Folih%2FDSCF5888-1.jpg&hash=3c9913211f099b9d2c86ebab9c44a0406932415f)

And this is what it is going to look like by the end of the week (anyone feel free to photo shop onto my five door if you like.....)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fh8%2Folih%2Fdetroit.jpg&hash=f526c590d028a952c9ca0d6047efdd89a9e03276)

Just a couple of questions;

1.  Were these actually an option on the Edition 30, I know they were standard on the continent?
2.  I am going to put new tyres on at the same time, I have had both F1 assys(8pS3) and Vredesteins(RS4) in the past and loved them both, I can have either, and am leaning toward the F1, do either tyre work better on the GTI?  the Vreds are approx 10% cheaper, but I will pay the extra.
3.  What are my standard wheels with conti tyres ( 2 x 4-5mm, and 2 x 7-8mm) worth?  All excellent condition bar a couple of minor chips, and would you sell them or do you think my car would be harder to shift with the Detroit's?

Cheers in advance as always

the vredesteins arent as good as the assys going by the vredestein thread on SCN after several members opted for a set due to a special discount price.

I think they were an option on the ed30. I much prefer these wheels to the pescaras.

Thank you, I know they were a dealer fit option, I have just never seen an ED30 with them on or for sale!

IIRC They where only standard fitment on the Edition 30 in main land europe, they had to be dealer fitted in the UK  :happy2:

Anyone got an idea as to what my 'old' edition 30 wheels are worth with conti tyres??  And anyone after some Edition 30 Pescara's

I reckon you would be best selling the pescara's seperately.  :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: I might have one or two :wink:

Well I've had a ridiculously long day today- left home at 515am caught the 745am flight from gatwick to Glasgow picked up a mk6 Gti dsg, then drove onto county Durham, then onto Rhyl in north Wales and finally back home to Bognor!!! Just got back now, having covered 650 miles in the golf, but more of that later.

Most importantly, I have picked up my new detroits, and have some new F1s waiting to be fitted first thing.
My pescaras will be going up for sale complete with Tyres, see the for sale section.

Sorry matey you really need to post some better pictures.

A similar dark grey ed30 parks at Dorking station most days with the same wheels and just looks absolutely fab, your pictures just don't do them justice enough.

They look stunning against the grey. Great choice.  :happy2:

You wouldnt think that Monza's could look good in black, as all the contrast and design definition goes when they are all one colour, and yet the still look the business.   :love:

I have just had a set of these wheels delivered  :jumpmove: :jumpmove:

I have no centre caps, is there only the vw ones that will fit as I have been told that they are a different size to BBS ones, even though they are made by BBS  :rolleye:

Superbe! I really think that VW should have supplied these on all the Ed30's as standard. The basic 'Monza' telephone-dial design is uniquely Mk5 GTI (now Mk6) and these black ones look great.
