Just was thinking if there is a way to make the stock exhaust sounds a bit more deeper and louder (not raspy) on the GTI?

Remove the pre cat

Remove the pre cat. Possibly a DIY job for you to do if you have axle stands but i think i'd rather take it to a garage.. Use the search function to find out more.
After that, i would say its time to move onto replacing your stock exhaust with a 3" downpipe as the standard down pipe is what restricts the cars performance as well as the 400 cell cat which is then replaced with a high flow 200 cell sports cat.
A 3" downpipe coupled with a 200 cell sports cat is what you want if your after extra noise and performance in my opinion. Then at a later date you can save for the cat back to match your downpipe and sports cat.
Also if you do opt for a new downpipe and sports cat.. you may want to think about being able to afford remapping your car too as it will no doubt throw up a cell warning light on your dash if you didn't due to the difference in air flow and other magics happening cause of the new downpipe and cat.

Remove the resonator! (this will increase rasp)
OR
or cut the resonator in half, and weld in place a solid pipe inside in place of the original. and drill a few holes (less then the very perforated pipe inside there already) weld it back up and you will get a deeper sound without increasing the rasp, an M3 guy I know have done this and his car sounds better than it did before, and for the £20 it cost him, not bad!
OR a new downpipe with stock catback combined with the above method! Would sound quite nice I think! :signLOL:
these are the cheapest ways to get a nicer sounding exhaust without shelling out alot of cash (downpipe will give more power with map to)

Removing the res section sounds to raspy imo
-
I am not looking for raspy sound. So I won't be removing it.
Would replacing downpipe solve the the pre-cat removing issue? What downpipe is recommended (currently car is not modded but might look I to stage 1 APR or bluefin later on)?

Get either a 3" BCS, jetex or pipeworx down pipe there all top quality and a good design
-
Maybe I look to see how much work vs benefit vs cost involved in removing pre-cat first , initially didn't want to spend much or change major parts of exhaust as such . Few twirls to enhance the sound :)

Could someone who had removed the pre cat on their stock exhaust tell me how much extra noise is there in the cabin now ? Thanks

Very little. The exhaust note is a little deeper though :happy2:

Oh that is good to hear :) was thinking about this but was concerned there will be too much noise in the cabin . I would like the deeper exhaust tone but not raspy

I have a brand new down pipe and sports cat for sale if your interested. Would be better sound and performance than removing pre cat.

Thanks but I'm not in UK :( across the world in NZ )

I have the precat out and a custom mid section. It pops etc and it isnt raspy its not loud inside at all and am pretty fussy with noise.
Anyway am removing all this as of next week and fitting a milltek system.

Looking forward to remove my pre-cat :) I will probably take the sensor out before smashing the material so I don't end up damaging it
