So my passenger side bearings went only 10 months ago when I bought the car and the dealer said he changed it.
Given the noise did stop but now it's back again. I wonder did he do a sh*t job or give me cheap parts.
Anyway I think I'll tackle it myself this time as I've done it on the previous car. I imagine either the bearing or the top mount is torn so I'll buy both.
This is what I need right? Am I missing something?

I can use original bolts?

Bad links mate, they just go to the page asking for your reg.
-
Damn! Not sure why that's happening.
Is it just the mount bearing and the support mount I need anyway?
I did this on a pool before so I imagine it's the same setup!

Most likely they just used cheap of cheap crap to keep there costs down. You'll need a press to pop the bearing out the hub just saying incase ones you've done in the past was different set up like a rear wheel bearing on a ford ka is totally difference.
Just use old bolts unless you round them off etc :happy2:

A press to pop the bearing out of the hub? Haven't done this before! Any advice?

Unless you know of other ways? If it's the front you remove the hub then set it up on a press bench then press the bearing out and press the new one back in using the press again. Rear wheel bearings can be different most I've do e are bolt on one but I've never payed any at tension to what's on the rear of my golf so no idea.
EDIT- I didn't read your reply properly ha it's fairly simple but can be a little tricky to set the hub up on the bench so it's level etc I use blocks of metal and old sockets for this. Remove the part where the wheel bolts screw into then remove clips on bearing then press it out, press new one in then make sure when you press the wheel bolt thing back in to the new bearing make sure you place something underneath the bearing so you don't fk the bearing. I use the old bearing to press the new one in to as it's the perfect size so you'll not damage the seals etc.
I'm crap at trying to explain things :chicken:

That's a mk4 but it's just the same process, fairly long vid but you will see what I mean.

How can you tell if your bearings are going or gone?

They will be singing their heads off whilst your driving or if you jack the car up and feel for play in the wheel. If there is movement in the wheel try and see if you can see/feel where it's coming from because the play in the wheel could be other things to like ball joints.

I can tell when you can hear crunching when you're turning the wheel!
Happened on 2 cars already.

Mk5 golfs are complete hubs with bearings front and rear so no pressing them in. Just spline bolts to hold them on. Usually get no play in them or if you do very little, just rough when rotated so will have a loud rumbling when driving! :happy2:

Like a humming sound?

Never knew that about the mk5 :happy2:
Much better idea these type are IMO, done this type on a mondeo on the rear, piece of piss.

I've had 2 busted bearings and I've never heard any noise whilst driving. The only time I heard them was when turning the wheel because that's when they grind over each other.

From reading the post again some are on about the top mounts and bearings and others are on about wheel bearings.
Upper mounts cause a 'twanging' 'grinding' sound as the mount and spring are trying to move together.
Wheel bearings usually on the mk5 platform give a rumbling sound whilst driving.
Thanks
