Yep, I've used that Ebay guy a few times. Prices have risen sharply recently as VW are charging more to try and put off the thieves from nicking the units in the first place.

Mind you, if the unit is reported as stolen then the code won't be given out by VW. Unlikely perhaps, but it does happen.

you maybe able to get a new screen, look at car systems site. i hope this is cheap if you need a code and it has dead pixels

There are better ones out there than dead pixel ones I think, and with a code as well.  :happy2:

You should be able to get a quality unit for £200 - £250, although shipping to Finland is the big issue. The RCD510 is rather delicate and the cd drive mechanism can be damaged in transit.

The chinese market ones have different buttons, and have less functions also.

There are many different part numbers for this unit. The later the letter, the newer spec the unit. For example, the earlier AA and AB units were not compatible with the MDI kits.

DAB is digital radio broadcast. I don't know whether you have DAB in Finland or not, or whether you'll actually have DAB coverage where you live I'm afraid. That's something you'd have to check with your radio transmissions authority over there.

There are also some bluetooth model RCD510 units I've seen, but again they may be chinese spec imports. I'm not sure what unit you'd be best getting, as my knowledge of them is kinda used up right here. However, if you find one, feel free to post up the part number and someone should be able to tell you a bit about that particular one.

Can you not get to the security code via vcds or vag commander?

Nope, unfortunately not. The code is held in the stereo, not in the cars ecu (although it might be hidden away in there somewhere inaccessible as once paired to the car the unit is remembered).
