The last time it was mapped @ r-tech it got 260 bhp and 311 lbft  stage 1.5( with a K+N typhoon and 3" turbo back jetex) it's gonna be getting an uprated intercooler fitted in the next few weeks and is booked into r-tech at the end of September niki's maps gave come on in 2 years -so hopefully I'll net some more bhp and torque with the new hardware and map !!

As soon as I get the intercooler I'll pop up some pics and my thoughts on quality and fitment etc , the ford lads speak very highly of the airtec coolers

Yeah, I went to a show that had a lot of Fords and all of the turbo engines had Airtec coolers on them.

280 bhp and 355 lbft , more than happy with that , niki reckons with some preload on the actuator or a new actuator theres more to come

Big thanks to niki , Ben and the rest of the staff at R-tech for there tremendous work and customer service !

May be worth sticking it in here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,16977.0.html

Niki's new VVT mapping makes a massive difference lower down

Never seen such a strong curve from any other tuner
Title: Re: Update on my 08 TR GTI
Post by: greygti on September 30, 2014, 10:20:41 pm
It does make a big difference low down and midrange ! Niki also mentioned the Airtec stage 2 intercooler is a very good piece of kit it never exceeded 30 degrees c , his maps have come a long way in 2 years

^ your absolutely right. All the other tuners have long given up messing with the TFSI maps and are too busy playing with the latest VAG engines (mk7 at the minute). Niki keeps finding new ways of improving things  :happy2:

I'll be going to R-Tech sometime in the next 6 weeks so if I'm feeling brave I might stick a leg beyond the chain just to see what happens  :scared:

Looking good  :happy2:  Am running very similar setup and over at R-tech end of October.  Interesting to see how my numbers compare with yours and other recent stage 2+ KO3's.

In your opinion does the low / mid range torque increase transform the car from the stage 1.5 @ 311lb/ft vs stage 2+ 355lb/ft.   :driver:

Still trying to justify in my head the hardware spend from stage 1 to 2+ including the same clutch swap you've had.
Title: Re: Update on my 08 TR GTI
Post by: greygti on October 01, 2014, 08:03:30 pm
It's a big difference in peak torque and torque across most of the midrange , peak power isn't much higher but that's not what ko3's are about, it a big outlay for the stage 2+ hardware but chances are my next car will be a TFSI engined car anyway I.e Cupra R 265 or audi s3 so intake , LOBA hpfp and intercooler will all fit

Vw contributed to a new clutch after the car had wings fitted and painted/blended under warranty and the car was collected with 3 miles on the clock where they had ragged it and f*cked the clutch !! I nearly smashed the place up , got nothing out of them anyway I handled it-until my wife started tweeting vw about it and they gave me the money for a new DMF and clutch took the cheque off them(after refusing point blank to let them do the work) and made up the difference to buy a helix = happy days . Naughty vw body shop

Thought I would post an update of the car since my last post

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn232%2Fkandi81_99%2Fengine.jpg&hash=33f7d9c4a4336089369eb0b66db708462cad7df2)

The most major change is that I've done a KO4 conversion - consisting of 3000 mile second hand KO4 turbo, new S3 injectors, turbo silencer delete kit, 200bar fuel rail pressure sensor & a S3 3bar map sensor, full S3 pipe work kit, intake valve clean.  Car went to Rtech for a custom stage 2+ and made 363bhp & 403lbft at 23psi with linear map without too must boost aggression

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn232%2Fkandi81_99%2FGraph_2.jpg&hash=7b2f2dd19d4771066e374961bbc2447f7de49e07)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn232%2Fkandi81_99%2Fgrah_1.jpg&hash=aed81c52e976388c136e0ae94a84a8fcbf3b69fd)

Fitted some new OZ ultraleggra’s in matte black with new Michelin pilot sport 3 tyres.

Standard brakes were not coping well with increase in power and torque, so decided to opt for a 345mm Vagbremtechnic DB9 4pot full brake kit with pagid RS4-2 blue brake pads.  Braking power is unreal for a fast road car.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fn232%2Fkandi81_99%2FBrakes_Close.jpg&hash=3f9657ded623e114bf3f9bb68cebc15c72405890)

A big thank you to Aks tuning for the parts and Rtech for the map.

That k04 graph is pretty damn impressive. 400lb/ft?!

Did you talk to Niki about how the internals will cope at that? And the Helix? I think they're rated for around 400lb/ft?

Reason I ask is that I've just fitted the same clutch, and I'm going to follow a very similar path in tuning. But I want it aĺl to be reliable!

I've already got the full BCS ticked off, and I planned to go for a Loba pump and Revo intake as you have, so it's good to see the parts working in practice.

Great results

Internals will cope fine as its a very linear map with progressive power and torque from the bottom to the top (1.58 bar or 23 psi peak boost) it's not coming in all guns blazing early on in the Rev range like some maps, the BWA is a strong enough engine really, again clutch has been fine

Thanks It's so so good to drive , quick
