Title: Want to use USB with RCD300
Post by: H18Golf on August 25, 2014, 07:24:11 pm
Looking at a 2005 plate GTi at the moment and will probably be going for it.  The cars stereo is a RCD300.

My wifes car has a USB port as part of the stereo system and i would like this aswell in my GTi.

Been looking on ebay and found the item in the link below.  Im not the greatest with wiring and would like a plug and play type thing.  Has anyone bought this setup or knows if it would work ok?  Like the idea of using one of the blanks on the dash for a USB port.

Alternatively has anyone else bought something similar that would do the job?  Also would this have any issues with battery drain or need any work with VCDS?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciatted.

Only the Aux-in would work on your RCD-300. The USB works in the Chinese version of the RCD-510, which is different from the European one.

You can use an external player with an USB port like the Yatour or Xcarlink. They work by simulating an external CD player box.

Cheers

Thanks for the information.

Ive just been reading up on these kits for a while.  Just a quick question, does the title and artist of each song get displayed on the RCD300 unit itself or does it just say track 1, 2 or 3 for example?

Also i read somewhere that there is only a certain amount of songs or folders it will accept.  Can anyone clear this up for me?

Thanks :happy2:

For what I know it only displays track numbers and such in the RCD-300 and Highline cluster.

The Xcarlink has that file limitation per folder. The Yatour player is newer so I never really looked into it. I have a RNS-510 since 2010 so I stopped looking for external players since then.
