Can someone please help me, what is this? Looks like some kind of catch tank but if you can see in the picture the top is damaged looks its been filed down or like a mouse has nibbled at it? Will this effect anything?
Many Thanks folks :happy2:

Cheers dan, how much would you want for it. There is a slight lumpy idle sometimes but apart from that the car runs well... 07 edition 30 btw. Not long had it, so far so good :) Loving it!

In answer to your Q about its function, it helps filter vapour and gases out the air that's being drawn back into the engine via the PCV I think. Someone confirm?

If that connector is perforated you will get a too lean code with a vcds scan.
Change it asap...

Taken from Yahoo answers:
" When your fuel (gas) expands it builds pressure inside your gas tank. There is a fuel line that runs to your Charcoal canister and the gas fumes are pushed through the canister. The charcoal sucks up the bad part of the fumes and stores them in the charcoal. As you are driving a valve is turned and now the reverse happens. Fresh air is pulled through the canister where it picks up the gas fumes and then is pulled into your intake manifold where it goes into the engine and is burned "

Probably best to plug that hole in the cap or cover with 'gaffer tape' till you get your 'new' one fitted.
It may stop the lumpy idle and also prevent petrol fumes floating around under the bonnet and around the hot engine .....
