Title: VW Boot Badge
Post by: V2 FAN on August 26, 2014, 11:04:14 am
Hey All

Quick question.

I have removed the silver plastic VW boot badge from my car (09 Model Mk5) as it had a small crack which annoyed me  :fighting:
Just called the stealers and they have said that the badge cant be sold separately as it forms part of the boot handle  :stupid:

The plastic badge shows a part number of 3C5827469 which I believe is the part number for the complete assembly  :rolleye:

Has anyone been able to source only the badge and not the complete mechanism? the badge simply clicks into the mechanism and is not stuck on.

Thanks in advance  :happy2:

Secondhand is best bet otherwise.
I sold complete unit for 40 quid last week.
Try ebay???

Thanks mate

I just found it strange that they expect to sell a whole unit when the badge is detachable especially seeing that these were desirable at one point for theft.

Ebay it is  :happy2:

Hi mate

I was looking at Part Number 5K0853630B ULM which I think is the Mk6 Badge
They both look the same and both measure 110mm, I've just ordered one from VW as the car is booked in for a service so fingers crossed this could fit  :chicken:

Nope it don't fit, despite both being 3D there is a very very small unnoticeable bevel to the badge which causes it to pop off. Both are the same size with the same clips it's just the bevel that causes it not to fit.

Unbelievable  :fighting:

That does look nice.
I purchased a Mk6 one from VW but it would'nt fit albeit the fixing tabs were in the exact same place.
Your one is rounder or beveled towards the edges, where as my one has a flatter longer surface area.

Driving me mad it is  :fighting:

It will fit, that I guarantee. What VW did on some of the last mk5 handles (and ones on the passat) was to change the base of the handle so it has little wedges so to speak around the edge- these make clipping the badges back on a pain in the arse but you can just cut a few off and the badge will clip on nicely. I have fitted mk6 badges to early and late mk5 handles so know it can be done - good luck :)

All because of 1 small crack and a bad case of OCD  :signLOL:

Here are the 2 badges: 1 on the left is the Original: Part No: 3C5827469
The one on the right is the Mk6 Variant Part Number 5KO853630A.

Both are the same size despite the picture showing otherwise.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi778.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy70%2FV2FAN%2Fphoto3_zpsdfe57587.jpg&hash=de38fdbdfc45947a0ee8ee3e156998ea20549aef)

Here is the offending Boot Handle  :fighting: Ignore the Carbon Sticky as i'm experimenting as Ill be fitting an OSIR Carbon Rear diffuser.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi778.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy70%2FV2FAN%2Fphoto1_zpsd6bf8ced.jpg&hash=d3742ec7def4684d29f6cf4f00c3da0025f78896)

On top of each other   perfect match in terms of width and depth
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi778.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy70%2FV2FAN%2Fphoto4_zps5336f7e5.jpg&hash=0b8627e9964364bfede538ac491ec04fb8b89e4c)

All the lugs and raised plastic stickers are in the same place albeit I snapped every lug off the Mk6 badge just to prove its not the lugs.
Top end pops in whilst the bottom end refuses this is the same when i get the bottom to fit then the top wont.

Seriously this is such an easy task but WTF is it not fitting  :signLOL:

Yep as I thought it is indeed the same base as the mk6 handle, so yes the badge will fit straight on unlike going to an older mk5 base where most of the clips would need removing.
I'm not sure how they fit the badges new but trying to fit yourself is tricky. If you get a Stanley knife and slice off a few of the wedge bits that stick up around the edge (about 6 of them I think, so take a couple off) it will allow you push the badge on, it does clip very tight - hence your problems  - can be done though  :happy2:

(just for reference below right is what mk5 handle backs were normally like, until they change to your style on the left)

Sorry to drag an old post up.... My new mk6 badge is being a right pig, when you say trim a couple of tabs off, do you mean on the actual boot part (on the side) or trim some of the plastic away from the actual badge.

Properly p£&@ing me off!!!!

Mine doesn't sit 100% flush but I doesn't really make a difference when the badge is in its normal position anyway

I left the big tab on though, you may have to secure yours with some sticky stuff

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but new member and this seems the most appropriate thread for my question!
I found this on eBay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/331047036163
And I'm wondering if it will fit on my 07 plate edition 30? From what I've read I should be able to take off the old one and fit this straight to the boot closing mechanism while still on the car??
Cheers in advance for any help.

I'll keep looking for a cheaper one then. Good to know it will fit though. I've got a black one at the moment on a black car, but I'm a big fan of the chrome on black combo!

That does look real good mate, is it a MK6 emblem? I still can't get the chrome on black out of my head. It's nothing to do with it being stock, I just love the way it looks. I also think a brushed aluminium style would look amazing as well, but can't seem to find an example of that anywhere.
Have you done the front badge red as well? Be interested to see how that looks.
Cheers.

It looks good, I definitely got to get one. Did you replace the whole mechanism or just put a MK6 badge onto a late MK5 mechanism? If so where did you buy your MK6 badge from? And what did you use to attach it? Sorry for all the questions in one go!

Finally got round to fitting a mk6 badge yesterday, really like the look of the bevelled edges and a big fan of the chrome on black. Didn't have to use any adhesive tape in the end. Just clipped off as many of the tags on the back as I had to and pushed it into place. Quick easy and simple little mod but one worth doing I think.
