so i was thinking of getting some new shocks and springs, rathr not get cheap coilovers but decent shocks and springs what are the b12's like and how low does a golf look with them? (pictures appreciated)
Thanks :happy2:
-
I put B12's on my Golf last July. Great red quality in a sporty kinda way, handled great.
But I was also always disappointed with how much it didn't lower the car so if I was to do it again I would get the kit with red springs.

I have the b12 sportline kit fitted to my mine. It's much better than the standard suspensions which had had 74k on them when they where changed. It does lower the front a bit more though than the back

Yeah I want them to be reliable but handle well, but I hate having a massive arch gap do they sit almost in line with the tyre,
Thanks :D

Pretty sure the springs determine the height.
Will sit the same as a GTI on Eibach pro kit :happy2:

See I'd rather it lower still but I do have 18' TD 1.2 so they might sit okay, anyone know I use my eibach springs I have and use the blistein shocks would it sit similar but feel and handle different obviously !?
-
I use the B14 coilovers which are really good, I have them at their highest 30mm setting but could go to 50mm (clearance allowing).

Maybe a useful thread here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,63481.15.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,63481.15.html)

If I was to buy shocks on their own could I use my original eibach springs ? If so what are the best shocks to go for ? L
Cheers

You would need the bilstein B8 dampers mate

Just out of interest what springs have you got already ??

Just out of interest what springs have you got already ??
They are eibach but they were on the.car when I got it and in his description it said 20-25mm but it sits just inline with the tyre on the front... So I'm unsure I do like the ride height but not sure if changing the shocks will affect it much if I get the blisteins.
-
Sorry, quick thread Hijack... Anyone paired B8's with Stock factory GTI springs? if so did it change the ride height up/down.

Spring determines ride height... Shock will just have a shortened strut.

Rite if the eibach springs you already have are they red sportlines ??, sportlines + bilstein B8 dampers = the B12 sportline kit lol , the bilstein B12 kit comprises of 4 B8 dampers and 4 red eibach sportline springs !

Usually.....
B8 has a shortened damper inside the strut housing,Bilstein cant confirm the measurements for the Mcpherson strut body, so its a crap shoot to know if the spring platforms are the same as a GTI strut, if different it will raise/lower appropriately
My previous experience of a gti specific Bilstein B4 with std springs raised the car over 10mm from the factory and my own measures data,no other changes only the shocks,so yes shocks can determine ride height.

I've had a look for the b8 dampers & shocks for a mk5 gti and it seems I can only find fronts and no rears or not even a set of 4 (2 fronts-2 rears) am I being stupid. ?!?
