When removing my filter the hexagonal plastic part on which the 36mm socket goes onto fractured. I almost purchased a standard plastic oil filter housing from VW, then after a search found this: http://www.awesomegti.com/ecs-tuning-billet-aluminum-oil-filter-housing-kit-2-0t
Just wondered if this is a 'forum approved' (tried and tested) replacement part for the golfs - as it certainly makes more sense than the brittle heat cycled plastic part VW want to supply with the car, and sell as a replacement :)
Just wondered what the general consensus is here for the ECS billet Al. replacement part

Id just get a replacement oem one to be honest.
The ecs magnetic sump plug is a decent idea though, I have one of those

First version of this leaked oil. It's been superseded by a new version that apparently doesn't leak...
-
Depends on the price of an OE part, if its under half that of the ECS unit I'd get the OE part. I got a magnetig sump plug off eBay, again they seem like a good idea.

I had the first edition.... Leaked badly!!!! ECS i us diden't refund me sh*t either, will never buy something from them again!!!!
-
Doesn't seem a great idea then...thought it best to check to see if it is tried and tested mod.
I will enquire about getting an OEM one, would anyone have the part number by any chance? I have feeling its a pricey item!
-
The part number will be on the unit, almost all parts have their part number stamped on them.

Part number for the oil filter housing is 06D115408B
