Title: Reliability ? Vw known issues
Post by: Scottw on August 30, 2014, 10:13:49 pm
Before I buy one,can anyone list the knowen problems that vw know about
My current mk6 gt diesel is in getting a new egr cooler fitted £950 !!! And it's a know problem !!
Mk6 gti has chain tensioner issues, egr cooler ?

I'm hoping if I get a mk5,that any issues would have been sorted, and should be in the history.
Mk6s are still too expensive looking at £10,000 max

Most of the GTI problems are sub £50 fixes; diverted valve, pcv and cam follower. Sometimes coil packs (R8 ones are £90 odd so get those) oil pickup pipe is £100 odd fitted but would probably only need doing once in the cars lifetime. The big thing really is the air con compressor can go which I think is a £750 odd job so check the air con thoroughly and on the DSG the mechatronics can go but i don't know a lot about those because i only wanted a manual. I think that's all of it but if I've forgotten anything I'm sure someone else will say.
