Hello all,
Thought I'd put up a thread about my car, shadow blue GTI.
Previous to this I drove a derv Fiesta Zetec S, peanuts to run at 50+mpg and £30 tax but as I don't do as much milage any more I was itching for something a bit quicker.
After considering my options of Clios/Focus etc etc I decided on a Mk5 Gti. I've always liked the shape and getting an outing in a friends Edition30 my mind was made up. (TommyR on here)
I was looking on and off for months until I travelled to North Wales one cold and wet August bank holiday to view this car.
1 owner since new, FVWSH, 58k on the clocks and the colour I wanted! Car itself has little in the way of extra options but it didn't bother me too much. Previous owner has also fitted Koni FSD shocks with the standard springs.
Left a deposit and was counting the days till I was back to pick the car up. As I left the previous owner gave me a huge file with cut outs of the Mk5 GTI press reviews and even his original spec booklet from VW. I could tell he loved the car.
After getting the car on Thursday I've finally gave it a good clean, it scrubs up well. Though I'm ashamed to say I missed a small case of rust on the rear boot badge surround - :ashamed:
Anyway here are some pictures of the car, and some of my initial plans below.

First and foremost I want to ensure the engine is fit and healthy. The car is booked into GNJ on Monday to have the cambelt/waterpump etc changed and a full health check, possibly serviced too.
After the engine gets the all clear I'd like to get the cars paintwork up to scratch and get rid of that arch gap.
- Machine polished
- Rust removed
- Colour code rear bumper and side skirts.
- 2010 Polo aerial
- Eibach lowering springs. Not too much of a drop - I live on a road littered with speed bumps..
I'd like to have a play with the performance, not too crazy though as standard power is more than enough for the time being coming from a 90bhp Fiesta!
Possibly;
-Exhaust
-Intake
-Stage 1/2 map
If that wasn't enough I'd like to upgrade the interior a little bit, by adding the below.
-GTI seat inlays
-Cruise control
-Aux input
-RCD 510
Cheers :happy2:

Look forward to see this take shape and add uprated brakes to list :happy2:
-
Looks very nice. Great buy :happy2:

Got the car back from GNJ. If anyones in the North West and looking for a garage then check these guys out, I think they used to post on here? - http://www.gnjmotorsport.com/ (http://www.gnjmotorsport.com/)
Said it was a very straight car. Clean and how it should be - doesn't look like it's been messed with.
Just what I wanted to hear!

Cheers chaps.

Managed to clean the car again over the weekend. Not machine polished but it's come up well. Got a price to get the rust sorted, going to try VW next see if I get any joy with them.

Haha it's stopped working totally now. Will give it a bash tomorrow evening I think.

Yep, I live opposite the Vic! Always good for chips and a pint! :drinking:

Wish I'd have stopped now. Was just on way to get more pictures of mine over Rivi before sun disappeared.

Liking the blue colour, looks a clean example! Just got a GTI myself and I also missed some rust bubbles around the rear badge :( not visible until close though thankfully. How much did you get quoted to repair?

really like the colour mate
Ditto lovely colour, although I would say that

Thanks. I was quoted to fix the rust on the boot and the rear arch (involves a full respray on the drivers side) at £375.. cash price though!
I have gone to VW and they have opened a warranty claim on the car, the chap took paint readings and pictures and was going to see what they could do. From what I've read they seem to offer 50% towards the repair of the boot rust - I would go to them first and get a price!

Ah right, good price really then for that! Yea worth doing I suppose, I did the same on my previous car (audi a3) and they repaired it for 30%.

So added a few little bits over the winter period.
Got some winter wheels, 16" alloys from a standard golf. Makes mine look like a rep though..

Firstly got ALL the rust sorted, local bodyshop did a great job too. Got them to touch up some other marks as well while they were at it. A week or so without the car but worth it and a weight off my mind.
Then a new battery, Bosch S5. Was in the sale on Euro Car Parts, the car was a little hesitant on cold startup, it was on the original battery and changing it has sorted it out.
Fitted cruise control myself over Christmas, cheers Eddie-NL for supplying the parts and giving advice! Process was a lot easier than anticipated, glad I didn't pay £100+ to fit it too!
Got a Pipercross panel filter for Christmas, which I've promptly fitted - can't say it makes a massive difference.. maybe slightly noisier.
Then got a eBay special short shifter. Hopefully get this fitted soon, when the 100mph winds have died down..

Tidy looking motor mate, got a shadow blue myself and been really happy with it since I got it.
-
Love the colour, i have a GT in the same colour and whilst you often see bogo ones in that colour its rare to see a proper MK5 in it!
Whats next on the list of mods?

Haha the rare shadow blue but two have the same colour :ashamed: just joking, great colour!
Next is get the 17" Monzas refurbed and then find and fit an RNS310 I think!
Will look into removing the precat at some point too, whether I try this myself or get a garage to do it I'm not sure..
