Hello,
I am after my next interior mod for my MY 2008 GOLF GTSport and I have to choose between:
Polar FIS+ (http://www.polarfis.com) which costs 250 EURO / 200 GBP
or
Fiscon E-MFA Add-On (http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/e-mfa-additional-gauges/e-mfa-dis-add-on-display-boost-oil-battery?info=906) which costs 150 EURO / 120 GBP
I have done some reading and I can't really find answers to some of my questions... So any help is much appreciated!
I originally had a 'comfortline' instrument cluster (small display) and I changed this with a highline R32 instrument cluster.
My questions are the following:
1. Do you have any of the above products? Are you happy with it?
2. I know that both products work with highline instrument cluster but since I have retrofitted my highline cluster I am not sure if I need other parts as well. So, will either of them work for with a steering wheel column that does not support multifunction steering wheel?
3. Is the oil temperature reading accurate? Are there any was to see if my car has an oil temperature sensor?
4. Do you access these new menus just like a regular menu (like instant consumption / average consumption / speed warning / etc?) or are these menus accessible only in the menu where you make configuration mods (like auto close the doors, coming/leaving home, etc?). Is the access the same for both Polar and Fiscon (except for the fact that Fiscon uses the radio menu)?
Thank you for your help :notworthy: .

Throw a bit more cash at it and get the Fiscon Bluetooth with E-MFA add on included. This is mine.

Thanks for the idea!
I don't really need the bluetooth so I guess it's not worth the money for me.
Did you have the highline instruments cluster as stock or did you buy the cluster at a later point?
Do you have multifunction steering wheel?
-
My first question is can you scroll through the different menus (audio, settings etc) in the mfd display at present?
If you can't then the polar is not for you.
-
No, I can't access those menus. :sad1: Do I need a Highline Steering Wheel Column Computer to be able to do that?
All I can do is to scroll through instant consumption, average consumption, range, speed warning, etc...
I have this instrument cluster:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fsite_P5298873_zps06cd9912.jpg&hash=018923b55186adc9e3579221f0c0b63331b4c5e3) (http://s1237.photobucket.com/user/vladpanut/media/site_P5298873_zps06cd9912.jpg.html)
So I guess it's not going to work for me? :sad1:

I have MFSW and Highline as standard mate.
Bluetooth is always worth it mate. Saves the temptation to "just answer this call" and get yourself some points. :happy2:

You might need to upgrade your steering wheel module or the confort module. There are a few members here that can help you with that.
I chose the PolarFIS Adv. because I didn't need a Bluetooth module, I use a Bluetooth headset that can go with me outside the car.
My Golf had the MFA+ with a MFSW as standard, so it was very easy to fit the box above the pedals, connected to the CAN Gateway.
Basically you can get the information that your car's sensors give the ECU, so it's like having a VCDS cable hooked up while driving. It gives a lot of information in real time. I like it.
You can get the unit from the Polar Team online shop: http://www.polarteam.net/en/home/65-polar-fis-advanced.html (http://www.polarteam.net/en/home/65-polar-fis-advanced.html)

You don't know freddy? :booty:
You want someone to do all the work for you :P
Still live with your mum? :innocent:

Thanks for your comments and help, guys!
Yup, I've done a lot of reading and it seems I have to change the steering wheel computer for Fiscon or Polar FIS to work.
Now, I am searching to see if 1K0 953 549 AG is ok (I can get this at 27 GBP) or I need a newer model like 1K0 953 549 CH (which I can get at 72 GBP). Any thoughts, anyone ?
-
Get the Ch from China Vlad, i got mine from there, no problems whatsoever :happy2:

Cheers :notworthy:!
Will the CH one work with the Mk5 steering wheel and mk5 cruise control? :drinking:
*Edit: A steering control module is, at the dealer, around 140 GBP. Are those cheap Chinese replicas?
-
There genuine Vlad :happy2:
Will work with the steering wheel fine, but i think you need the latest revision cruise stalk, G or J iirc
-
I also have been unable to get my polar fis+ to work, as i have not got a MFSW, would a suitable CH like in the link, fix this...?
Infact i am unable to enter the menu option, except the normal usual MPG, max speed, time traveled etc...
Highend Controller – 1k0 953 549 AQ ?????
As far as i am aware, i need a mfsw to let me enter the extra options, due to the clocks, then my polar fis should work.
Sorry to hijack, but just on the of chance !
Have the usa highline dash, cruise control and the extra menu highline stalk fitted.

Neil,
Did you code the steering wheel controller properly?
It should work with your car (from what I read)...

:drinking: Rex matey, I had someone do it for me, so i'm really not too sure... :ashamed:
How could i tell? if it has or has not been coded correctly?
thanks
-
Well, I guess the coding has to be according to the new hardware.
From what I read it should work just fine.. Do you know how to access the menu (long press the up button)?
-
Yeah matey, but still dosent work, i have tried pushing all the buttomn, even trying some together :signLOL:
As far as I'm aware its to do with not having a MFSW !
If i remember correctly, TFSI Mike has the same problem !
We have been unlucky... :fighting:
-
Well, that's a problem because I also don't have (and I don't plan on having) a MFSW :sad1:.
-
I have guy with a mk6 mfsw, he is willing to try it, but would i then need a dfferent controller?
-

You could be lucky enough to have the more suitable clocks...
I think it was something to do with the dash i got, came from a car with a mfsw fitted...
-

From what I've read, yes you will need a CH controller.

I think/hope there is another explanation for that. Check the coding once more, just to be sure...
My clocks come of a 2009 R32. If it was DSG it had MFSW. So I think I should follow FAB5FREDDY' s advice and get a CH controller. My only concern is if they're genuine or not (as I understand they are made in China for the local market and for the USA market.
-
Next try will be a new Ch controller... With a MFSW !
I also hope my clocks are genuine ones, as my dash is USA spec ! :rolleye:

I had the same concerns, I asked EddieNL and he seemed to think they were genuine . I've had no issues with mine :happy2:

Ordered mine today (I found one in Romania) and it will arrive tomorrow.
If it works I think I will go with Polar FIS + (didn't really cut corners with the mods on this car and hopefully I won't start now).
-
So, the new controller arrived yesterday. I fitted it the same day and:
- no steering assist (even if I've done the coding and read a lot of threads)
- the steering wheel controller was impropertly coded
- I could not access the settings menu.
Thus, I will send the controller back to the seller and I will forget about Polar FIS+ or Fiscon E-MFA
Neil, during my searches I found why your highline instrument cluster is not working properly: you need to upgrade your Comfort Control Module (CCCM) / Central Electronics Control Module (CECM)
Here (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3604801) is the link where I got the information from.
-
Hey Rex
I upgraded the cccm but not the cecm, so by the sound of things i could need to update the cecm...
I will have a read through the link to see. What brought it to your attention....
Thanks for thinking on me matey ! :happy2:
