I have just bought a 2006 GTI and i've just noticed that part of the brake caliper plastic has completely melted off. Is this an issue or just general wear and tear?
Answers would be greatly appreciated cheers

Get a photo up, even better with the wheel off.
Never seen anything like you're talking about!

Thanks for the reply but I can't seem to find how to attach photographs?

Very poor quality photo but even still I've never seen that kind of damage before!
My only thoughts are did someone put on fake calipers in the past and they've actually burnt up from braking.
Get the wheel off and take a good look and get better photos from different angles
Peopl on this forum are very good to help with the right photos!

Not seen it to that level before but once the paint starts peeling doesn't take long for the weather etc to get to them. I'd get them rubbed down and repainted with something like hammerite (I've just stripped to bare metal and painted a spare set of calipers for mine and didn't take too much effort). Or If you've got the funds refurbishment or brake upgrade! Also with where the bleed nipples are on the rear calipers its easy to spill brake fluid on them if a correct tool isn't used, which quite easily peels the paint if not cleaned off correctly.

looks like a sticking caliper that has got hot

Cheers folks, so overall is it a worry like an asap job or can it wait a week or so?
-
Needs doing asap as you can boil the brake fluid

Appreciate it, tar
