I would appreciate some advise on an irritating problem with my standard Mk5 GTI. (50,000 miles)
From a cold start I have a noticeable throttle hesitation. Literally one minute into a journey and the engine characteristics return to normal.
The car has been well maintained. I have replaced the D.V, PCV, & the Coils,
What's your thoughts please.

I can't help unfortunately, but my gti does exactly the same. I dont accelerate hard until the car is up to temperature, but I would love to know why this happens. Changing to a Rev g didn't help, bit it definitely made my boost come back :signLOL:

Plugs? Possibly carbon buildup

Don't all engines do this when "on choke"?
Engines don't work their best (and shouldn't be thrashed) until they're warm :happy2: the ECU is dumping fuel into the exhaust to heat up the cat and trying it's best to get up to operating temp. Wouldn't expect it to drive wonderfully as well. . .
My ed30 and my old GTI were unresponsive from stone cold

Not sure if he means hessitation as in slight hickup/missfire

Thanks for the response. It is defiantly not a misfire. I described it as a hesitation because when you acelerate there is nothing there for a fraction of a second. The closest comparison I can make is something similar to turbo lag.

I would change spark plugs, check/clean MAF sensor with contact cleaner

same here, does yours make the sounds but fail to do anything ? mine feels like somebody has stuck a potato in my tail pipe but only for like a minute after iv been driving for about 1 - 2 mins the car is fine, now i know this is not a big deal but i like to have my things working at they're best

They all do it don't they, it's sluggish for the first couple of minutes and then its fine, is it not intentionally there to allow the engine time to warm up and get to temperature before you screw the nuts off it and destroy the cold engine? Think about it oil is denser when its cold so when its not up to the correct operating temp it will not circulate around the engine as easily therefore meaning your engine is more at risk of damage.

Run a can of BG44K through engine. May be a placebo but it appeared to smoothen the start and running of the car, more noticeably from cold. Only £10 odd can't do it any harm
