Hello People,
My mates 2.0 tdi golf had the EGR flapper/throttle valve fault about 3 weeks ago it was stuck open so the car ran OK. Yesterday we found a new one and fitted still no joy......:(
The air con does not work either and for some reason the front wipers have decided not to work either. Ive checked all the fuses under the bonnet and on the drivers side dash all ok.
Heres a scan from VCDS.

Any help would be fantastic.

The wipers might not work if the bonnet isn't shut properly or the switch has gone on the bonnet latch. The air con might be the clutch on the pump not engaging
-
Is there a way of bypassing the switch, The car con was working before the Flapper/Throttle body thing stopped working.
Dont think its the clutch on the aircon as the fans are not kicking in at all.
Cheers Dan

Blown 10amp fuse in the fuse box next to the battery. The fuse also controls the fans.
-
Hello,
The ten amp fuse is fine, disconnected the battery and the window wipers now work weard lol.
Still no joy with the air con condeser fans or the intake/throttle/flapper valve thing lol.
:sad1:
Cheers Dan
-
Anyone have any more ideas?
Your help would be appreciated.

Unsure on what testing you have done on the AC conpressor, but have a look at how I fixed mine recently

-
Was it a brand new, or used, IMF valve?
-
Hello mate,
Cheers for the reply, would this stop the condensor fans from spinning or operating correctly? Just seems funny how the ASV as it's called...:) is still not working and the fuse is fine. The part we used was a used part too, maybe that is faulty to? Think we're just going to buy a new one tomorrow.
Cheers Dan
-
All that fix did was allow the clutch to mesh, otherwise it gave no faults. Have a look and see if the centre bolt is sticking out.
Aye the IMF/ASV is a very common part to pack in so could be another dud you got, ECP sell OEM Pierburg ones cheaper than TPS if buying new.
-
Hello mate,
Cheers for the reply, dark side developments also sell them for £150, so I'm going to phone them and ecp tomorrow too, even though the fuse ok I really don't get why the aircon condensor fans are not working and not throwing any fault codes up.
Cheers Dan

Blown 10amp fuse in the fuse box next to the battery. The fuse also controls the fans.
Look again as this will be the fault as Alex has pointed out - common just search the net.
-
I've looked at the fuse mate, loads of times as I just can not get my head round why the fans are not working! I checked it with a multi meter and changed it just to make sure.
Cheers Dan
-
Hello,
Brand new ASV fitted today still no joy, fuses all fine still the fans are not working nor is the ASV, any other pointers people.
Cheers Dan
-
In the engine bay fuse box there's a selection of studded red wired connections (as you look on to the fuse box) - check those connections for corrosion or a blown fusible link (the location of the fuse is year of manufacture dependant)!
-
Hello Mate,
They would be the fuse for the starter motor and that with a 8mm bolt holding them into position? Ive checked these with a multi meter all seem OK ill get some electrical cleaner today and a small wire brush and see if I can clean up better.
Cheers Dan
-
Check all the high amp fuses in that fuse box 50A is the feed for the fans.
-
Hello,
All fuses checked and all cleaned up, ASV seems to be working, no engine light or fault codes on VCDS. Still no air con or condensor fans. Would this be coninsidance that the AC needs regased.
Cheers Dan
-
Use VCDS to run the fans in output test for that module.
-
Hello,
Output test was done via VCDS and the fans worked perfectly and all seems good, thought we would try degassing and still not working at all, recovered about 320g of r134a and could only get 440g back in for some reason but the system should hold around 520g ish.
Compressor pulley seems to be turning ok, could it be the pressure switch on the compressor suction/discharge side?
Any more help would be great.
Cheers Dan
-
The same output testes could be used to show the compressor draw current which would confirm it's operation.
Common failure item on that side of things:-
http://www.myturbodiesel.com/threads/ac-not-working-in-fla.11391/
The switch is a very common failure item but would normally (but not always) show as fault when scanned.
If you fit a new switch fit a new seal its best practice!
However, the best advice I received was to re-gas and make sure the leak detecting dye is added which will allow fault finding of the system components!
-
The compressor pulley turning is not an indication of it 'working' as it does not have the standard type clutch mechanism. It turns all the time even when off on these cars.
Look down at the pulley, if there is a centre bolt protruding then the engagement plate is probably gubbed. Search for 'delphi fix' and it should have a post by me showing what I mean, the splines wear off on the engagement shaft.
