Title: DIY for air con condenser?
Post by: Alex156 on September 14, 2014, 09:14:55 am
Hi there,

So after having my compressor replaced my VW dealers have now informed me that I've had a stone through the condenser and require a new one. It would seem that I can get a nee unit from gsf for just over £100 which if possible I'd like to fit myself. Does anyone have or know of a good DIY for this or offer any advice?

With thanks,

Alex

I'm in the same position.   Condenser online around £100 or £640 if I get Vw to do it.

There is a video on youtube showing how it is done. All in Mandarin with cheesy techno music but you get the idea.

Looks straight forward.  Just need someone to sort out the aircon gas for you.

The issue is the gas.... needs to be removed professionally... it's illegal to release it into the atmosphere.

Illegal to do it intentionally.  In theory the system has prob leaked most of it out.

I'm not at all suggesting you vent it quietly yourself.  Just saying depending on the state of your system you might not need to get it bled.
