Title: Broken Vent - What Now?
Post by: lukemk5gti on September 14, 2014, 06:32:44 pm
I had this on my old VW but it was an easy enough fix.

This one seems to have completely broken the clip.

It will sit in place but when I move it, it comes loose.

Any thoughts in fixing this? Do I need a whole new unit?

Is it a side one or centre? The side ones are easy to remove, just pop off the dash side panel and push it out. I once bought a new one thinking the one in the car was broken like yours, but it all snapped back together once I had it out and could see what had happened!

*annoyed*

From the photo there it's the middle one on the left side.

You can see it's not sitting right.

Think the actually rod that sits in the holder broke off

I remove the panel before she replacing the hazard but can't remember does that surround around the vents just click off or do I need to remove top vents and panel?

The little slats just snap into place. Put some cloth over it and use long nose pliers to pull it back into its correct position. If it is broken then I think you have to replace the whole top dash, which is around 70 quid from memory. The interior was shagged on my car when I got it so I had to replace a lot of these parts!

Yeah I'm sure the arms are snapped.

It does sit in place but comes out when moved.

I suppose I'm just being picky but still.... Since this has happened to me twice I thought it would be common so there might have been a DIY fix

Same happened to mine, bought a new centre unit for £55 from VW and sold the broken one on ebay for £10.  Fitting guides are on YouTube and only takes 10 minutes.

I am after the right hand side little vent at the back of the arm rest for rear passengers.
The switch thing has come off and the slats inside are all a jumble

ah interesting.... do they come as a pair or can I just get the one side?
Even though I can't see it as a driver it bothers me it looks like that to passengers!
They easy to switch out?
