Title: Please check the pressure in your saver spare tyre...
Post by: bacillus on September 21, 2014, 04:30:16 pm
Most folk will rarely, if ever, need to use their spare tyre.
With the months, if not years of "neglect", the pressure could drop to an unsafe level for use as a spare.

So please check its pressure and inflate as necessary. The stated inflation pressure is 60psi.

I checked mine today after neglecting to do so for many months and found the pressure to have dropped to 39psi.  :scared:

That's a good shout! Must check mine...
I'm in the process of getting rid of the space saver altogether though! Have sourced a spare Pescara, & have bought the foam trims to raise the boot floor.
Would like to junk the VW jack too, but not sure of a compact alternative!

Swap it onto the back? That's what I'll have to do.

I'm sure I read in the manual that you're only meant to use the spacesaver on the rear axle and not the front? So if you have a puncture on a front tyre, you swap it with the back and stick the spacesaver on the back. Also these are rated for only certain distances (can't recall - was it 50 miles?) after which they should be replaced.
