Title: Fleas?
Post by: Tortaruga on September 25, 2014, 11:54:14 pm
We had pigeons nesting over the summer on one of our balconies. They made a total mess, sh*t everywhere. Cleaned it up on Saturday and scrubbed with Jeyes fluid. We now both have itchy bites all over the place. It's a f*cking nightmare.

I presume the pigeon nest was full of fleas and now I am the new host? Am I resigned to a life of scratching myself intermittently? HELP!

Could be mites as birds tend not to have fleas. Probably should go to the doctors/vets. And call pest control. And kick all pigeons.

Careful, you don't want to catch Psittacosis

I'd recommend a good bath and washing all the clothes that were or possibly were in contact with the pigeon's faeces.

Also, are you sure you have been bitten or is it just an allergic reaction to Jeyes fluid? Take an antihistamine pill, like Desloratadine, to see if you have less itchiness.

To avoid Psittacosis you should have worn a proper face mask (and gloves), but not just the regular kind like surgeons wear, more like those that prevent tuberculosis spread.

If you don't get better see your Family Practitioner next Monday of if it gets a lot worse go to the ER.
