OK first post, so hello all! Regular on other forums so know how annoying it is when newbies ask obvious questions on a first post, but I've genuinely searched hard for an answer on this forum and can't find it.
Have placed deposit on a 2005 GTI DSG. As per a lot of posts on here I want aux and bluetooth, and in an ideal world DAB and SATNAV although can live without the last two. For music I normally use my 4th generation IPOD (old style connector) although have just got an iphone 6 so have lightning connector on that although probably won't use for music, just bluetooth for calls.
Currently has the CD head unit (RCD300?), so looked around on here for upgrade options. I've seen the guides to fitting a RCD510 and the price is a little scary.
Search on ebay though it starts to show up items like the ES7086GB

Price wise these seem almost too good to be true and with exception of DAB solve all the issues. I'm guessing there's a catch? Are they terrible or does everyone just prefer to keep their VW original and stay VAG for parts?
Any help appreciated! Wife is going to complain I bought a red car already, so one without bluetooth will be even less popular.

My HU is virally identical - The one you have posted has a couple of extra tweaks such as being able to pick the start up logo, change the backlit lights from green to red and have PB download capability.

Overall mine runs fine and does the job its there to do - Look OEM but give me the options I didn't want to pay ££££s out for. Mine runs Sygic maps which are excellent, it doesn't seem to say what maps that one runs.
However for the price (I paid £250 a few weeks ago for mine) and if you don't mind the non OEM operating system its a bargain.
Point to note - If you do buy one pull your radio fuse prior to installing, then replace it when finished.

Ok thanks, sounds a decent budget buy then. Will have a comparison of the various jobbies on ebay etc and make a decision.

Monty - have you brought one yet ? Is it controllable from the MFSW ? I believe you'll need a can bus compatible HU or use a analogue to canbus converter if you want to retain that function.
