Title: Yet another new ED30 owner
Post by: pudding on September 30, 2014, 11:27:30 am
Another new ED30 owner

It's a manual and has 81K on the clock.  I'm just going to do the WALK, VibraTechnics dog bone mount and a stage 1 from Stealth Racing, and that'll be it.  Doesn't need anything else imo.  They are very accomplished all rounders out of the box  :happy2:

Had it 2.5 weeks and already done a lot of preventative maintenance and got it booked into VW for wing rust, which is very very slight on one side.  Catching it early and hopefully will get away with repair rather than replacement as I don't want any paint mismatching on my car.

I've owned and modified VWs since 1990, so have a bit of experience in them and always happy to help :happy2:   I've already bought the genuine VW tools to replace the cam chain, so I will probably do a write up on that job at some point.

Thanks mate.   Yeah it seems to be in good condition

The previous owner put some horrid faux carbon trim on the back bumper (the section with the tailpipe cutout).  Can it be replaced with the original colour coded section?

Thanks chaps.

I'll do a gallery thread soon but during a mapping session, I was getting low rail pressure grumblings in VAG-COM.   Not sure if it's the HPFP or the in-tank one.

A regular (but intermittent, if that makes sense!) misfire on cylinder 3 as well (it's not coils), so it looks like I'm in for a set of new injectors and a Loba pump in the near future!

Has anyone tried the fuel system cleaner dealers sell?  Might try that before shelling out £500 on injectors.

Had to give up the mapping at 300hp and 334lbft torque as that's when the pump couldn't keep up in the midrange.    My mapper thinks there is another 30 - 40hp to come with a new pump, maybe a bit more.

Had the WALK done whilst I was there.  Not sure I like it.  Strange noises coming into the car and more twitchy in the dead-ahead, needs constant correction.   Might try the TT console bushes next.

Did you have if fully aligned after you fitted the bushes?
