I guess you will just go to tax your car normally and there would be three options 12 months, 6 months or monthly DD. I don't like the change but will be glad to get rid of the tax disk holder advertising the place I bought the car from

Yeah if tax'ing now for October then it's 6 or 12 months as before but no disc to be displayed from now on. November they are rolling out the 12 months paid monthly via direct debit, I believe it will add 5% to the 12 months cost for paying it monthly.

Spent all day yesterday trying to Tax my car both on-line and via the telephone.
Due to technical difficulties I was unable to do so.

I took the documents to work today so I could try again, on my 65 mile commute I passed 4 separate police ANPR check points  :fighting:

Not seen any police in the last 18 months on this route.

Makes you wonder

I had to tax my car prior to 1st Sept, due to a complete cock up and my ex not sending me the V5 in time I had to do it online on the 1st Sept with the reference number... then have the tax disc posted to her. I called DVLA to assure myself all was legit......only to be told NO! You cannot legally drive your car without displaying an in date tax disc, If I had applied for the disc PRIOR to the start of the month (i.e. the night before) I could legally drive it but the law says it has to be bought PRIOR to the run out date.

Imagine my anger with 31 days to go prior to tax disc abolishment! However the nice man at the DVLA also told me it takes 5 working days for a new application for tax to show on the system including ANPR, so the same goes for expired tax....5 days after it has expired ANPR should start picking it up.

hope not a daft question but my wife's tax does not run out until March next year. Do we have to continue to display it on the windscreen until then or can I remove the tax disk now. Reason I ask is that the dam aluminium holder keeps falling off and I cannot be bothered to order more sticky pads

Mine is safely secured and will continue to display it until August next year irrespective

thanks

No one will believe this little story but alas... Yesterday, had some winter tyres fitted to my spare rims, leaving the depot noticed them clattering in the back, I pull up and reposition them... Also decided to remove tax disc, pull it off and put in the boot...

Just as I'm getting back in, a fake copper (Special) who was walking down the street had seen this and says what do I think I'm doing?  In reference to what I said, tax disc, don't need it mate, keep up to date pal.  He started arguing that its a 30 quid fine etc etc and if I move away he'll report it, lol.

Go for it I said, so he took my registration... Ha, we'll see - probably get a Section 59 as they like to abuse that little piece of legislation.
