Good man. What clutch you gone for mate?

How far are you going or are you sticking at stage 1? That clutch is EASILY good for stage 2+!

About time
-
Cheers guys!
@bacillus (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=49) Hurdy seems to know his stuff about manual clutches too, despite being a DSG fanboy :signLOL:
Just going stage one for now, with pre-cat removed & panel filter. That should see over 300bhp and a healthy chunk of torque :jumping:
I'll probably be back next year for stage 2 after a few months on the slippery slope
-
should have got bluefin
-
should have got bluefin
It was a tough decision. . .
-
:signLOL:
-
ooh nice one--hope you got forum discount of Hurdy :happy2:
-
Well I'm now going stage 2 :innocent:
The garage that did my pre-cat removal did a great job of blocking the cat with he remains of the pre-cat. Right now I have around 200bhp and a torque curve at the red line which would make a K03 look good
Thanks @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) for offering a downpipe :happy2: but in the end I thought it's a great excuse for an upgrade. . .
I've ordered a Downpipe & Sports cat from Pipewerx to mate to my OEM cat back :jumpmove:
Solving one problem, with more power :signLOL:
-
^^^^ :pomppomp: :congrats:
-
Ah just seen this, so you'll be there a 10 days before me!
Where are you driving from?
-
I'm coming from Crewe, Cheshire. It's about 75-90 miles depending which way I go!
Downpipe & Sports cat fitted now - it's a different animal already  sooo much more responsive and has bags more power throughout the rev range. Exhaust note is a little cheekier too
-
I say......320bhp! :popcornsoda:
-
Fingers crossed - my money is on 315bhp :signLOL:
-
Should be 320 at least... nikis had 330 out of stage 2 I seem to remember
-
£5 says 324.7bhp
-

@Saintsteve (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4825) has 332bhp but he has a Twintake vs my panel filter, he has a full TBE which may be worth a few BHP over my DP@ SC
-
True.
-
Ah OK fair distance! Not long now

My R-tech stage 2 map was 331bhp, only mods at the time were a REVO CAI and a 200cell BSC TBE.

not long now Graeme

not long now Graeme
T-2 weeks now mate :jumping:
Fitted Pipercross panel filter this morning, not had chance to see if it's made any difference.
-
Gray
have you got an upgraded HPFP too ?
-
No just stock mate. Been looking for a used LOBA or APR pump, but nothing come up :sad1:
-
I'll be there on the 14th November at 9:30 after a 3 hour drive from the North East! I have a standard Edition 30 I've had for a year and Just replaced the mechatronic unit in that blooming DSG gearbox! I'm hoping for 290-300, I'd love 300 so I may just add a panel filter to help. Good luck with your figures your wanting :happy2:
-
Cheers pal!
Panel filter will help, removing the pre-cat will ensure you hit the magic 300bhp figure
-
I'm doing the 140mile trek on Tuesday to go Stage 2 too  Can't wait!
-
I'm there Tuesday too!
-
13 hours and counting! Soon be 9:30 tomorrow morning!
-
Make sure you write up a review afterwards :happy2:
-
Will do fella. I'm sure the 260 mile round trip will be worth it. Looking forward to the drive back! #massivegrin
-
Hi mate,
Chuffed for you, looking forward to hearing results. Bet you can't sleep at night lol.
Thanks.
-
Today is the big day,bet you drove home faster than you went :signLOL:
-
:popcornsoda:
-
Sooooo didn't sleep much last night :signLOL:
Woke up at 5.00 thinking it was Christmas Day :jumping:
Got over to R-Tech 30 mins early to miss any chance of traffic. Niki arrived around 9.30 although we spent about an hour chatting :signLOL:
Onto the numbers:
Stock: 249bhp 263lb/ft
After uploading the base map: 307.3bhp 314lb/ft
Niki played around with it and did another couple of tweaks before we settled with:
314bhp 321lb/ft :jumpmove:
Niki uploaded a linear throttle map and his ASR mapping (traction control map).
On the road it's just fantastic, as I've retained the standard airbox & cat back its barely noiser than stock - but a whole load faster
I wanted smooth, linear power which was usable in a FWD setup, and that is exactly what I've got. Niki said the airbox and the fuel pump are the next restriction if I'm after more power in future.
I can deploy full throttle on a slightly damp road easily in 3rd, and with a bit of spin in second. The traction control mapping is just epic, it just kinda pulses the power in & out rather than cutting it off as stock TC does, meaning there is no need to let off the throttle you can just keep your foot in it
I'll post the graph and some pictures up later :happy2:
-
Definitely gonna be taking mine for a trip over there when I can get away with it :-)
-
Great result! Was your car mapped previously?
-
Great Stuff, the standard motor wasn't too shabby on the BHP front either.
Amazing you can unload it, in 3rd in the wet :surprised: :happy2:
-

No it was totally stock map

Yeah standard with Downpipe & Sports cat with Panel filter brought the stock figures up nicely.
It's bang on what I thought it would be :jumpmove:
I'd like more torque (especially after getting a helix clutch). HPFP needed now.
Niki recommending that everyone fits HPFP now (even stage 1) as you get so so much more mid range.
My turbo is only working at 55%.duty in the mid range as the stock HPFP can't fuel any more power
Michelin Pilot SS's, traction control mapping and 1:1 linear throttle mapping & delivery make it usable even in damp weather.
-
Chuffed for you Graeme, bet your Uber pleased. Great numbers too dude with the mods you have......GET THAT HPFP ON ASAP and there's another 20% ft lb torque in there waiting to be let lose!!
:happy2:
-
Yeah I'm really pleased Martin!
I'd love to see how well a Stage 2+ Ed30 goes in comparison.

Mine & @Jussa (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2225) 's S3 (BCS exhaust is a work of art) - couldn't resist a look while it was on the ramp. The Mk1 was a 1.8t conversion (the last that @rtechniki (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1870) is mapping)

I know what the rates are... just have other things that need my money atm. Plus its the faff of getting the REVO taken off. etc etc etc.... :indifferent:
-
Nice one Gray bet you're loving the ed30 now.
Do you think you'll be happy with this power or can you see yourself chasing a bit more?
Thanks.
-
I love it as it is at the moment, but i'm tempted to get a fuel pump to open up the mid range more. I dont want to spoil the refinement of the car with induction noises or loud exhausts so i wont be going crazy with it
Its so tractable now and really doesnt wheelspin much so i don't want to spoil that either
-
Mate how did you get past the barrier chain thing? I wanted to but it was a no go :sad1:

Gray, sounds like you've got a great useable output there, you must be loving it. What you're describing is exactly what i'm after....no sucking noise in the engine bay, no loud exhaust noise but plenty of oomph with pretty good traction.
Would I be right in saying the linear throttle map helps in getting the power down? I think i'll be going the linear route.
Thanks.

Yeah definetly, it feels a bit odd to begin with as the stock throttle map has lots of power at the top of the pedal and the linear throttle requires more of a prod to make the car fast, however. . . When your just pootling about, or driving to poor road conditions it makes modulating the power much easier and you never find the car running away with you when trying to drive gently.
Niki also recons it gives better fuel economy - I've noticed an improvement during gentle driving.
Cruise control seems to work better too, it's not as jerky as before.
Overall I'm very pleased with the whole setup. I can drive round gently with ease, and when the mood takes. . I can get all the power down on the road :happy2:
-
The way you're describing the linear throttle is how I imagined it to be. It sounds like a necessary tweak for those of us who want a re-map but don't fancy shelling out on a diff.
I noticed mine was more eager to spin up as soon as the uprated hpfp was fitted so i'd imagine with that power you have it's a good idea to keep an eye on front tyre wear and put them to the rear to give them a rest a little earlier than usual!
Thanks.
-
^^^^ Def go the Linear route and if your after a stage1 to stage2 then yes it's usable. You'll still get a fair bit of wheel hop unless you fit some decent uprated engine mounts (all round) and anti lift kit...at least.
Even with my linear progressive map at stage 2+ she can be a fecking animal if you go WOT to early.......and yeap tyres don't last 10k miles anymore! :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
Lol cheers MC71, yours must be a beast at 360something. What a toy!
I've got the WALK and ths fr3 side mounts with vwr lower mount but to be honest i'm not that impressed with the ths mounts, even without re-mapping there is still too much engine movement, coming down the gears from high speed the engine movement is disappointing. Been looking at the revo mounts.
I'm on my 4th set of f1 asy2 and i've not managed to get 10 thou out of any of them lol, with 360something you must be achieving 6 or 7 thou at a guess?!
Thanks.
-
^^^^ Have read a few peeps unhappy with the THS mounts, usually excessive vibration.
Look at Vibra Technics for side engine mounts as an alternative to the REVO ones. I believe Vibra Technics are releasing new mounts to replace their current ones and will be cheaper too. Might be worth a call.
Tyres....I get around 5-7k from a pair of front GY F1 2's. :innocent:
-
^^^
(Sorry Gray, don't mean to hog your post)
Wel MC71, strangely, i'm not getting any vibration whatsoever with the THS side mounts, my only complaint is that there is too much engine rock and i'm not even mapped, not too noticeable on the upchange but on the brakes coming down the gears it's obvious. And i've only put about 4k on them. They do give a nice growl though! When they come off i'll sell them for pennies!
What I would love to know is the following, bearing in mind I already have the VWR lower...
Which pair of side mounts offer the most hold with the least vibes?
Thanks in advance for anyone's input.
So you get 5-7k? lol you hooligan :-)
