Title: LED Side Lights
Post by: ollie288 on November 09, 2009, 01:24:52 am
I have recently purchased a set of xenon lights  :pomppomp:. I want to get some bright LED sidelights for them. I have searched and read probably all the threads on this site. I now know everything about adding resistors to remove bulb out etc. But there are not many threads about where to purchase.
What I want:
Heres an example:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi619.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ftt272%2FOllie0804%2Fled.jpg&hash=a501d2d9440fae2f090881f7445659a6fbfd6426)
Not as blue as that but the same sort of thing but bright white with a slight hint of blue.
So if any one has any links to ones they have used or any that could be used it would be much appreciated.
Cheers Ollie :happy2:

Title: Re: LED Side Lights

I have got mine from either http://www.xenonwhite.de/eng/led-products/index.php or ebay in the past.

Most of the ones on ebay don't have a resistor built-in so you would need to solder one in-line to prevent the bulb check from triggering.
Title: Re: LED Side Lights
Post by: ollie288 on November 09, 2009, 10:28:44 am
I dont really want to solder my own resistor in if I dont have to.
Can you fit any 501 led bulbs with a resistor? Or do they have to be certain ones? Cheers  :happy2:

my side lights look the same as the autobulbs ones and they took quite a bit of forcing to make them fit, they look quite good though

Did you have any problems fitting Brett?

Spoke to Autobulbs and it's the only ones they have listed for a 501/W5W fitment? Have you had a go at fitting yet Jay?

I pushed as hard as I'd dare with the bulb as I didn't want to damage the LED and there isn't much to grip!  :scared:

I've seen Mercedes now offer factory fitted LED side lights on the E-Class - I don't suppose anyone knows what sort of LED they use? I presume it's a permanent fitting rather than a servicable bulb.

Hi nath, Just compared the leds with the free set and they seem to be around the same dimensions as the free set no major difference. Have they sent you the wrong type? i am just going out now but I will try to fit to the holder when I get back. :happy2:

they were abit of trouble mate,  one went in quite easy but the other took some more work i had to spread the contacts in the bulb holder a little to make it fit.  they took a lot more force than a normal bulb takes to fit  :happy2:     there a must for xenon headlight though

It's the thickness that's the problem and they tell me they are the only type they make!

Do you know if they need to be a certain way for the polarity or can they go either? Just to save me messing around later. I cant check as the lights are not on the car yet!  :happy2:

ive had a go at fitting mine, but i think i must have buggered something up!

keep getting a "bulb out" warning on the dash, and it wont go away. Ive cleared the codes with vag com, tried again, turned them round etc but they still dont work!

the original sidelight bulbs wont even work now! awesome!

Jay I fitted some xenons for Ollie today and put the sidelights in and one didn't come on, long story short autobulbs told ollie to pull them out a little bit and by eck they work,  cleared the bulb out fault and every thing is fine.

By the way bulb out fault will turn the power off on the light that is faulty just so it doesn't cause any damage.

Yep as Darren said you need to get the polarity right, then turn the sidelights on and slowly pull the bulb outwards. You should find a position where they light. They apparently have small contact point.  :happy2:

They are really easy to change. I had my lights out but when the one bulb didn't work on the passengers side I had to change it on the car. It is easy the only difficult part is the lack off space. The passenger side was easy bit the drivers side has less space so probably could get tricky! Just get some long nose pliers or something and you should be fine!  :happy2:

In a word no, I need to get some different bulbs that give off more of a white/blue light. Got my eye on a few.
