Hi guys. Not sure if this is the right section to ask this but I'm just wondering if I order the LED number plate lights with the part number 1K8943021C will they work on my '07 GTI without throwing a bulb out fault?
Have many of you done this mod and are you happy enough? I don't want to go down the line of not buying genuine parts if possible.

I bough these for mine complete bargain http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161374875659

Thanks for the suggestion @mrxbox360 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5082) but my current number plate lights are a sealed unit similar to the Rocco ones. Cheers though!

put them in mine and work excellent
-
I'm going to go for the VW ones also, not keen on the bulbs they look too bright IMO.
As for bulb check I think from what I've read the wires need swapping over (polarity) on each connector. Then adding resistors, you can also buy ready made wiring adaptors.
Other option I think would be turning bulb check off in VCDS?
-
Thank you @Golf_GT_TDI (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10587) I think I'll will just get the genuine ones and work from there with them, see how I get on.
-
Same mate let me know how you get on

I have these fitted. One of the fastest mods I've made. Just disconnect your factory lamps and connect the new ones. Completely plug & play and no errors on our mk5 Golfs.

Thanks Shoduchi, right just ordered a set from eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-OEM-VW-GOLF-PASSAT-SCIROCCO-SEAT-LED-license-plate-lights-1K8943021-C-/271497461648
I found these adaptors if we need them: http://www.carsystems.pl/license-plate-led-plug-play-adapter,id373.html
-
Over £40 for something you can buy (non genuine but just as good?) for about £25..
If the whole replacement units are too bright then would have just gone with bulbs only personally. :happy2:
-
No adaptors needed.
I've bought mine for 12,5 €, postage included. Those from ebay cost 28 £, which is still a lot less than from VW, when I asked the price.
Some non genuine LED lamps don't last as long, unfortunately. Not sure about those mentioned here.
Cheers
-
Nice buy, I just paid £25 delivered with the 1st Class signed for option.. eBay update since to say they have been sent so should have them tomorrow fingers crossed.
Mine is a later model Mk5 so unless I'm mistaken I might have the bulb check issue? If they are indeed plug n play then thats awesome! Did you have to swap wires over for polarity or is that only the Mk4's that need that doing?
-
Mine is a later model as well, MY2009, bought in Nov/2008. You won't have any problem and it's just as I've described. Unplug factory fitted lamp and plug in the new LED lamp. If you don't turn the ignition on while having the connectors unplugged you won't have any error.
My ebay was telling me the postage cost to Portugal: 5 £. It's cheaper for you.
-
Happy days, cheers :happy2:
I'll post up pics tomorrow hopefully
-
VW LED numberplate lights fitted yesterday afternoon, thanks Shoduchi.. confirm plug n play no errors

Good to hear @K9 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6852). Looking forward to seeing how you get on.
I have mine ordered so I'll be waiting till the end of the month before I'll have them.
-
I got the ones of eBay (as mentioned by mrxbox360) they are much much brighter, even light up the road beneath, might tweak them a bit to aim at the plate.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpaul_aki%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsda2f1296.jpg&hash=a5500c8cdae4a233df4964946e1945302ae4dd56)
-
Hi mate,
What do you mean by tweaking them to aim at your plate?
Thanks.
-
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/161374875659?txnId=1160837771006
This is what they look like and the pointy edges just fit into the original bulb holder they can be twisted, pointing up down or whichever way really, I imagine if I twist them towards the plate most of the light will go in that direction instead of strait down (as they are sat at the moment)
-
I've got 3 sets of error free LED's in bulb holders if you didn't get a set
-
Mine haven't put an error up, think there error free LEDs will have some if it goes pear shaped though :happy2:

I have those LED. One of the easiest mods I've made.
-
Fitted the oem units and they don't work on my 2007 Eddy. They turn on initially then turn out! Gonna try turning off the cold diagnosis on vag com in the hope that it'll solve the issue! TBC...
Anyone had issues with the oe units?
-
1st Mod ordered looking forward to some brighter lights, with them hitting the road looks sweet.
-
I replaced my bulbs with canbus error free ones and they're fine. Yellow ones looked well dull and made the car look worse lol

My bulbs lasted around 12-18 months before throwing intermittent bulb out errors. I replaced mine with full units from eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Number-License-Plate-Light-Lamp-Unit-fit-SEAT-EXEO-LEON-Cool-WHITE-/310907959322?hash=item48638ef81a:m:mY0VL2hkZ7AwmbX0ZTOQfcg - (Leon Only!) and they're silly bright
-
Almost as bright as the dip beam aren't they Dan_FR :rolleye At least the error free led ones can be aimed toward the plate and not the floor :scared:

Any chance of a pic fitted mate? Really on the lookout for a set of these, don't want like a xenon light at the rear which I've had before when purchasing this type lol

Imageshack deleted the pic I had online. The OEM LEDs have a small lenses like plastic that direct the white light just for the license plate. It's classy, not chavy.

Check my post on page 1 for the pics :happy2:
