Same question as the header...
Are drilled or grooved or drilled/grooved discs still vented like the original solid ones???
Think they must be else the pads and calipers would have to be changed, for a much narrower disc.
Read the thread on Drilled Vs Grooved and would sill prefer the "drilled look". There is no way I will ever get close to the limits of braking / fading the way I drive, and I just prefer the look of drilled.
Cheers

Only stupid question mate is the one that never got asked.
Well the answer is Yes.......and No.
Its perfectly possible that you could have a solid disc that is drilled and or grooved on any car, it may be possible to find somebody who would sell you a drilled set of solid drilled or grooved rear 286mm discs for the MK5. The Brand of Zimmerman at GSF car parts would be a good starting point.
You're also right about having to change the calipers disc and carriers if you were planning on going vented on the rear.
Theres a load of threads about the virtues of bigger rear brakes, make a brew find a comfy chair and search for S3 rears!

Never even considered solid rear discs. D'oh
Pad warning light has just come on, last service said pads were 75% worn and discs were lipped
Doesn't sound too bad for a car covering 50k
The upgrade is purely aesthetic, with possibly a small performance improvement.
As mentioned I doubt I will ever get close to the limits of the standard setup.
I will give GSF a call.
Thanks for the quick reply
