Hi Guys
Checking the oil today on my 80K mile Edition 30 and found this:

Now whilst not a valve or metal component, I doubt having shards of plastic floating around one's oil system is terribly healthy. I urge everyone to check there dipsticks (!) to check for cracks and/or broken pieces.
Just to add, the cracked plastic piece is just below the 'O' ring & orange finger pull. I'll price up a replacement tomorrow from VW.

That for the whole dip stick assembly mate?
One of the orange clips has snapped on mine so will replace for that price :happy2:

Mine was the same and my motor has only done 36k, replaced for a shiny new YELLOW one

You're lucky, mine broke off and fell in to the sump on boxing day last year, mileage was about 48k at the time. The plastic 'ball' half way up the dipstick also fell off.
Less than a tenner from TPS, sill not to

My dipstick itself is fine, but the housing that connects to the cylinder head is broken and needs replacing. I'll use those part numbers to order a whole new lot, but is it trick to fit?

Any repercussions to the dipstick parts floating around in your sump? Did you find the bits? Did you strip the sump out to before you ran the motor again? Just wondering how common this failure is and if anyone's had serious issues as a result.......
-
Yeah i did run the engine as i thought i had caught it all before it fell in the sump, but only after i had drained the oil to be sure and didnt find anything.
It was only when i changed my oil pickup did i find a few little bits of dipstick stuck in the gauze. No damage done though fortunately

Yeah mine fell off the day i got it home and checked the oil
Just pulled all the bits off and carried on using it
Il have to grab a new one asap

This has just happened to me! Figured I'd check the oil level. Most of the plastic crumbled away into the engine bay as I pulled out the dipstick. Don't think any remained in the tube for the dipstick but can't be 100% sure.
Any repercussions?
