Title: Pirelli Edition GTI
Post by: Wayne D on October 08, 2014, 01:50:56 pm
Hi guys,

Been a while since I've been on here, I had a Red GTI a few years back and always said I would get another one some day.

Here is a link to my old GTI thread:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,12731.30.html

Well that time has come and I put a deposit down on a really nice Silver Pirelli Edition Gti last Saturday. Hope collect it this weekend, so I will add more pictures then.

Spec wise:
2009 Pirelli Edition, Silver, 3 door, Manual, 54k miles with full VWSH.
Unfortunately it doesnt have Xenon's or a MFSW which I would have liked, but its a really clean car all round.

I was originally after a white or red 3 door Edition 30, but after looking at some over here it was hard to get a clean one that I was happy with. This Pirelli Edition came up for sale at a local dealer and at first I didn't really consider it, silver wasn't a colour I wanted and those nasty Pirelli wheels, which I never really liked...

I never really had much interest in the Pirelli Edition before now, because I had always been a fan of the Edition 30, and disliked those Pirelli edition alloy wheels.... but after some time looking at them online and searching threads on here it started to grow on me and I began to really like them, even the wheels with the Pirelli "P" which I had never noticed before. So last Saturday I went to view the car and that was me sold on it, a deposit was paid and now I can not wait to collect the car at the weekend... :)  When I viewed the car it was spotlessly clean, the interior is like new and everything works as it should.

Only pictures I have from outside the dealers:

Plans for the Pirelli are:
Eibach Sportline Springs (or H&R which I had in my last GTI)
Front Open Fogs (which I have at home from the Red GTI also)
Yellow Pirelli Logo on dash, like the Edition 30 one (nice little touch, I'll get some sign writhing company to do it.)
Gloss Black front and Rear Splitters ( I may Plasti dip these or get them wrapped)

Here a link to my old GTI thread:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,12731.30.html

I'll keep you up to date as I start to enjoy my ownership.

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks for all the comments above guys.

Picked up the car yesterday, and all I can say is... I'm loving it, I had forgotten how good a car the Mk5 Gti was/is. Racked up about 100 miles in it the last days and I'm so happy with it, it just does everything so so well and the extra grunt of the 230bhp engine really makes a quick car.

Only pictures I have for the moment, but I'll get more up over the next weekend.

Looking forward to seeing how the mods go :)

Thanks Dave, it will likely be the new year before any changes take place. I think my bank account needs to recover a little before I attack it again.

First mod :) in my defence, it was bugging me with the VW badge missing from the key fob.

I had the day of work, so managed to get the car cleaned and a coat of wax applied. it could do with a propper detail, but I dont think there is much point at this time of year with the winter fastly coming in.

Some better pictures as promised:

So 3 weeks in and still loving the car, its just the perfect car imo, does everything so well and just ticks every box for me.

Hopefully some springs in the next few months once my bank account heals a little.

Remap is tempting, but I'm pretty happy with the power the car has as standard, but maybe a run in a remapped Golf could change my mind. :)

Looking good! Where did you see this one advertised, might I ask?

Cheers mate, it was advertised on Used Cars NI by Charles Hurst Used Direct on the Boucher Road. So I guess I'm lucky you didn't spot it before I seen it. :) I spotted it for sale Friday at lunch time and shook the sales mans hand at 10.30 am the next morning. Over the moon with the car, but I don't think I'd be rushing back to Hursts in a hurry. Their after sales help has been a joke.

Yeah I can see why you fancy a change mate. My first choices would have been red or white, but I'm more than happy with the Silver now. Plus it seems to hide the dirt really well.

Got my finger out this morning and ordered up some -30mm H&R springs for the car, I had them in my previous GTI and was very happy with them, both comfort wise and height.

Surprised in the differences in prices for these, ranged every where from £168 - 200+. Managed to get a set of eBay for £178 all in including P&P.

I've my MOT on 12th Feb, so not sure if I should weight until after then to fit them or not. No doubt once they arrive I'll not have patience to wait till then.

My I ask what mileage your shocks have covered? I think the drop is spot on but always worry about standard shocks and lowered springs.
I ran a H&R cup kit on my MK4 and it gave a nice ride, so my opt for these instead..

The car has cover 57k mikes, I assume they are the original that came with the car. Seemed fine and no signs of any leaking from them. I think with a 30mm drop it will be fine on normal shocks, I think it's more a case of guys running -60mm springs on standard shocks that would soon put a lot of strain on them.

Haven't it done yet guys, waiting in a local sign writing company to get back to me. Must give them a call in the morning to chase this up.
Only reason I thought yellow was to match the stitching, but as you say black may work better.

I have this too also in black - mine is slightly larger though 75mm by 20mm so fits nicely on the silver strip. It's all about the details!

I've been considering putting some on the door strips too but not sure if it'll be too much?

I have this too also in black - mine is slightly larger though 75mm by 20mm so fits nicely on the silver strip. It's all about the details!

I've been considering putting some on the door strips too but not sure if it'll be too much?

I'd thought about one there as well, maybe slightly larger to cover the GTI text. As you say, might end up looking tacky and taking away from the car.

Was just gonna say...I may have a spare you can have. PM me your address and I will pop it in the post to you. :happy2:

Cheers for the offer mate, certainly if you find it and TaylorGTI doesn't want it I'll take it if mine still hasn't been made. Thanks.  :happy2:

Anyone from here heading to Dubshed next month??? I'm going to go along.

It's in Belfast Northern Ireland mate, quite a trip I know for you guys, but it's the biggest and best VW show we have, well worth the trip if you's ever considered it.  :drinking:

Yeah mate I've applied to get inside, entry closing date was 1st March. So no word back yet, not sure if that's a good thing or not. But if I don't get inside I'll take a run down on the Sunday and just display it outside.
Make sure and say hello if you see me or the car, I'm sure I'll be glad to see a friendly face and a fello MKV owner. :)

Ordered 4 new centre caps for my wheels on Saturday and collected them today.

Had a bit of a job to convince the guy in parts that my car did have Genuine VW alloy wheels and that they were Genuine VW centre caps... Lol think he felt a bit stupid after they came up on his screen after he entered my chassis number...  :ashamed: clearly never heard of a Pirelli GTI then.
I'll fit them this weekend if the weather clears up for 5 minutes.

No no problem at all, got them for £60 for all 4. Not cheap, but I was worried they might have been a lot more. Lol

They are almost to nice to put on the car to get all dirty.  I think I might get them a good coat or two of wax first.

Picked these up this morning. Bought them to fit during any shows I plan on attending throughout the year. I'll get a picture next weekend of them fitted along with the centre caps.

Bit of a spring clean for the Golf, few new bits added as well.

@Neil@rockvale kindly sorted me out with some dealer style plates.

Started last night and Plasti Dipped the centre lower sections of the front and rear bumpers. I might wrap these, but I'll see how the plasti dip lasts.

@TomGTI (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6456) They're OZ Ultraleggera 8Jx18'' ET45 in Matte Graphite Silver that is a factory colour that you choose. I love their design and how they change the look of our Golfs, it's a lot more aggressive/sporty now. Also, I stopped worrying much about brake pad dust.

Your Pirelli is so good that it needs OEM xenons.

Depo xenons are good while new, but AFAIK they don't age as well. Might last longer if they're protected with a headlight clear wrap, for example. The plastic isn't as good as the original.

Cheers for the offer mate, got one sorted last week with the number plates.  I think I may have ordered it in to big of a size. I went with 15mm deep.

So I may get another at some stage in a smaller size, maybe 10-12mm deep.

Title: Re: Pirelli Edition GTI
Post by: Wayne D on July 11, 2015, 10:11:23 pm
Hi buddy,

No up dates as such no. Only minor change has been a small 5mm spacer on the rear wheels to push them out a little. Other than that, just enjoying it and keeping it clean. Booking it in for a service within the next week or two, just for a regular service and check over.

Maybe considering an air intake of some sort, I'm not sure as the car maybe for sale towards the end of the year. I may need to make the move to the dark side (diesel) with work commitments. I'll know towards the end of the summer.

Few more recent pictures:

Looks tremendous! :happy2:

Cheers mate, yeah I really do love it myself.

Yeah wouldn't rule out keeping the Pirelli and getting a cheap diesel daily. It would mean I could keep the Pirelli, keep the miles off it and enjoy cheap motoring and good mpg with a run about.

Bit of an update on the Pirelli, after seeing Bens black Edition 30 at Castlewellan GTI show, it put me in the notion of an induction kit for my car. I thought it looked awesome and really made the engine bay look more purposeful. :) I decided to go with the Ramair kit, read some reviews and they seem great value for money.

Had a quick run out earlier and sounds good in lower gears, don't know if I'd say it's any quicker or not. May just be my imagination because it sounds louder. Lol I'll keep you posted.

TTS engine cover is a work in progress, I'll remove the Audi rings and try to make it a bit more VW OEM.

Sadly the time has come to sell on my Pirelli edition, its been a great year of ownership and I've loved having it. Work commitments mean I will require a diesel daily from the new year onwards.

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,101584.0.html

The car is located in Northern Ireland, approx 45 minutes form all airports and harbours and I would be willing to help meet up with any buyers from the mainland.

Thanks

Hi All. I am looking for same centre caps. Tried ringing my local dealer they haven't got a clue. Therefore, could someone kindly point me to the right garage to purchase these same ones. Cheers.
