Hi Guys,
I have bought a Kenwood Double Din 7240BT, I'm in the process of getting all the stuff to fit the unit. I am also going to fit a Blaupunkt 5 channel amp and Blaupunkt 6.5" components front and rear.
Any advice, do I need asub?
-
depends on personal preference, Id see how it sounds with the components amped up and then consider a sub if your not happy.
Are you up to speed with regards to fitting?
-
Alexander,
I've looked up all the how to take it apart articles on the Tinterweb and am praying! Need to buy a trim tool, I have the other tools.
Its amazing how much you need, apart from the unit, amplifier and 2 sets of component speakers, I have picked up:
Double din fitting kit inc cage, brackets etc..
Aerial adapter
Wiring adapter
2 x RCA 3m
Amp wiring kit
Front speaker adapters
.... I priced this lot up at Halfords and nearly had a fit, £130 for accessories (am I being tight). Ebay was £70.

how much power is the amp kicking out?
Caraudiodirect.com is the daddy for cheap audio and accerssories.

I'm sorted with the bits now, but thanks for the tip. The amp specs are
Max power 4 x 100 + 1 x 220 Watt
RMS power 4 x 50 + 1 x 110 Watt
Input sensitivity 0.3-5V
High-pass filter 60 - 240 Hz (channel 1-4)
Low-pass filter 60 - 240 Hz (channel 1-4)
30 - 120 Hz (channel 5)
Dimensions 500 x 54 x 256
Here is what the beasty looks like, its huge.

not a huge amount of power but should do the job, what speakers are u using?

A mate used to work for Blaupunkt years ago. He found two sets of Velocity components with 6.5" aluminium cones and very big magnets. They were very expensive in their day, I've no idea how they sound yet. But hopefully as they have big magnets I'm hoping the bass is good enough to avoid the need for a sub.

Been peeing down with rain and its freezing (no garage), I'll give it a go later. Thanks for asking.

Alexander,
A little update for you. The whole thing is in bits
- rear seats
- sill trims
- dash side trims
- door cards
- sill plastics.
Really struggling working out how to get the front speaker wiring routed, I cant get the bellows out and am now considering using the factory wiring.
Getting up at 7:00 to get the rear spearkers in before work. Should be done by Wednesday.
This takes a long time.
-
Thanks for the update, looking forward to seeing it done!
Its worth doing it properly and when you have yourself an awesome sounding system it will be worth it!
Hoping to get a Kenwood 7220BT or 7240BT myself to replace my Kenwood dpx-503u so let me know your thoughts on that!
-
when i put my alpine header unit in with ground zero speakers all round-the hardest part of the job was running the speaker wires through the doors-it will be worth it in the end
-
Have you got this done yet?would love to see some pics if you have!
-
Hi Alexander,
Not quite, I have the front and rear speakers in, just getting the door cards back on and rear seats in.
Should have the amp wiring in by close of play today and then finish tomoz, weather permitting.
