Hopefully someone can shed a little light on an issue with my car.
Recently the battery went flat whilst sat in the car with the radio and lights left on (silly i know!)
Someone stopped and connected jump leads to the car to attempt to start it back up, but it didn't work.
The breakdown company came out and attempted to start but with no luck, he said fuel was coming through but the engine just turns over but will not 'fire'
Have been told I have potentially blown the ECU - if so, does anyone have VAG-COM around SE London/Kent area (I live in Bexleyheath, Kent). Would vag-com be able to tell if the ECU is shot?
If the ECU has blown what is the best way to get it rectified?
Thanks in advance! :happy2:

TSI :scared: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/266114-18tsi-and-20tsi-engine-failures/
Hope the timing chain hasn't slipped as above.
-
Sorry, I should have said, it's a 1.4 TSI DSG
-
How can I tell if the ECU might have blown?
-
bad checksum via VCDS/VAS if it connects at all.
-
Have you tried using your other key FOB incase that is the issue?
-
What year is it and what mileage mate? Reading around, if the chain has started to slip/stretch then its been documented engine is harder to start. Get Vagcom on before jumping to conclusions! Good luck!
In the process of getting dealers to look at my 2011 1.4TSI 122 54k miles Golf as the engine sounds a bit more rattly than usual. Suspected chain tensioner issues intermittently and no errors on vagcom.

It's pretty much the same as yours mate...2011 1.4 tsi 122, but with a DSG gearbox
I've not yet tried the spare key, i'll try that tonight
Anyone with Vagcom around my area?

Thanks for the replies so far.
Little update...
Got my hands on a snap-on ethos scanner, it came up with 24 various fault codes, but nothing from engine control module. When trying to connect, it would just come up with an error that it could not identify engine control module.
Sounds like the ecu is buggered then?
Is there a fuse for the engine control module?
Cheers

Have you tried a different fully charged battery, if you try jumping a car that has a flat battery fitted sometimes the ecu reads there's less amps/volts than it needs To start and won't allow it.
-
I tried a different battery yesterday evening, no joy
Does anyone know if there is a fuse/relay for the ECU? This will be the last thing I want to check before getting the ECU repaired/replaced
-
Check the fuses in the engine with multimeter on resistance mode to check for blown fuses/relays.
Maybe worth getting mobile mechanic round to check these and other basic stuff if you arent too car savvy? ECU swap is pricey and used ECUs will need programming and immo work etc..
Good luck and hope its something simple!!!

What year is the car? :O
-
It's a 2011.
If it does turn out to be the ECU, can a used one be programmed using vag-com?
-
You would need to match the ECU to the keys and Cluster at the very minimum for it to work, there may be more in that new a car. Will also be a tricore ECU so possibly a bit harder. I have a bench cable for use with VCDS if that helps at all? Would mean removing the ECU though.
