hey, so ive been out in canada for 2 months with work and i classed my car as sorn while i was away... what i didnt realise stupidly was that my mot has also ran out now.
The issue is that i work in essex during the week but live down in torquay and when im on leave. I know its legal to drive to a pre booked MOT testing centre but the issue is that its 260 miles for me to get home with no tax and mot... will i be able to explain if i get pulled that im in the military and have been away for 2 months and havent had the opportunity to tax and mot as iv been completly away from the world for 6 weeks?
Cheers

Not worth the risk, best make alternative travel arrangements?

Tooo far imo.

The police will allow the closest testing station within your local area of your vehicles storage for prebooked test.

The law says you can drive it to a pre booked appointment at a mot station , no limit on how far you drive it .

Yes technically correct so longs its a direct route to the test station and the vehicle is road legal - they'll still say your coming the game and I know who'll come off best as I've had it done to me using trade plates - some people can be really awkward!
Local testing station for meeeee!

If you get it booked in down there and print off some proof, you could get away with it?
-
personally i would just drive it with an apt of coarse

It's Russian Roulette with the interpretation of the law, it would be hard to explain why you didn't get it MOT'd at a garage near your work address. Lets face it there are plenty in Essex to choose from.....and plenty of ANPR cameras to catch you and with the new RFL rules they will be itching to catch someone without TAX.....which will obviously bring up no MOT as well.
Im guessing you still had it insured whilst SORN?
You don't want to be tabbing in to see the 'old man' because you've been gripped by the rozzers lol

I wouldn't do it !!!
With the new Tax changes I have seen an increasing amount of DVLA Camera check points coupled with Police ANPR Units.
Its a Risk I would avoid :happy2: as this will highlight your lack of Tax and MOT.
