Hi
My RNS-510 in my 58plate pirelli makes a buzzing noise/fan running noise not all the time but quite often and even makes the noise when the engine and unit is off.
It's not normal and it's really bugging me want it to stop..any ideas?
Thanks

Do you have a disc in the dvd drive?
-
No, the DVD drive is empty?
-
So it doesn't sound like the dvd drive then. Possibly the cooling fan on the rear.
-
It does sound like a fan so could be the cooling fan, its not normal do you think it could be getting hot for some reason?
-
Well, either the fan has become noisy or the unit is overheating and the fan is coming on more than usual. I would suspect a noisy fan myself. I think I have one in the workshop if necessary.
-
Well the car is under the AA WARRENTY but just wanted to have an idea myself - just had a bit of a google search could the wires at the back of the unit be blocking the cooling fan do u think?
Thanks

the fan on my RNS510 also runs after the car has been turned off, once it did it for about ten minutes after I'd pulled the key out.. it's normal and depends how warm the unit has got in operation.. mines can be heard faintly, less than the blowers on the lowest setting.

I would think you'll be very lucky to get the unit replaced under AA warranty. I should think there'll be an exclusion clause somewhere which saves them from having to fork out for a new head unit. Also, they could well use the excuse that it still works therefore it isn't broken, therefore isn't covered under warrabty. If and when it does break, then they'll say you should've addressed the fault before it became critical.
Always worth pulling the unit to make sure nothing is catching in the fan of course.

Pulled the unit out today tried to move the wiring about and moved my parrot hands free kit to somewhere else in the car, not spent anytime in the car yet I will find out tomorrow if the unit is still making the noise.

Any news?
-
Well its not done it since so fingers crossed :happy2: :notworthy:
-
Well, that's a nice cheap fix then.
-
Yes my toes are crossed too.
I just pushed the wires and the box for my parrot kit further down the back of the headunit :happy2:
