Hi guys I've currently got a 2007 Tornado Red Mk5 Edition 30 (Manual) with the following:
Highline Display, iPod connection, new BBS VZ's, BCS Powervalve, THS intercooler (to be fitted), Helix Clutch kit (to be fitted), Revo intake, lowered on vwr springs had the bonnet resprayed and 2 new front wings etc, 47K Miles.
My dads got a Candy White ED35 that he wants to sell for either a R or a RS3 (depending on spec and prices etc) he's offered to swap with me and trade the ed30 in against one of these and il keep the ed35… the spec of this is:
18K miles, Xenons with washers, Led DRLs, Touchscreen 6 CD & Bluetooth, DSG, MFSW, Carbonio intake, BCS Powervalve, Bluefin stage 1, vwr springs, ipod in armrest connection etc.
The question is what do i do? I've spent loads on the ED30 in the year of having it and don't feel like I'm ready to let go just yet and i prefer the shape of the MK5! Am i being stupid and just get the 35 or stick with the 30?
I know that they are both the same car underneath basically but i really don't know what to do haha
I can of corse take the revo kit off and put it on the 35 and sell whatever doesn't fit etc
What would you guys do?
Thanks in advance! :drinking:

Haha i feel like I'm being a right p***k to be honest haha! The 35 has highline display too
-
i prefer the ed30 but as you could swap all your mods over and its a great investement for you i would do it mate
-
I think you know the right answer really ;-)
If not, would your dad consider swapping with me?
Dave

I think the MK5 is a lot better shape car to be honest! Would the THS IC fit the Mk6?
-
Of course you swap :signLOL:
Keep the clutch and the intercooler, they will fit your new ED35 :happy2:
Ditch the bluefin map though :sad1:

Would have to sell the clutch and flywheel as the 35 is DSG, shame cause the clutch was just about to be fitted so brand new from AKS a few weeks ago!!!

Yes! @Beddie (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=230) had an Ed30 and upgraded to an Ed35
It's the same engine (slightly different cams) and the same chassis so it's mainly cosmetic, and a bit more soundproofing :signLOL:
-
I'd have a 35 over a 30 any day of the week
-
I'd rather have the ED30 but the 35 is worth so much more, I would swap and if you don't like it then sell and buy a mint ED30 and have holiday moneys left over.
-
The general idea was i was gradually going to do the ed30 up and keep it then to try to get it to the fastest and best it could possibly be but I'm now thinking is it worth the time money and effort?
I think id miss the Mk5 to be fair once it had gone! The only other option i have is sell the Mk5 to the misses
Ive always wanted a Mk5 since my mom had her Gti 7 ish years back and now I've got one i feel like I've achieved my childhood dream so to speak aha but i don't want to make the wrong decision and regret it after! :sad1:
-
from my experience its worth the time money and effort 100% turning a mk5 into a beast :happy2:
but as yours has minimal mods and they can all be swopped over i would do the swap as the mk6 is worth more and its basically the same car just alittle more modern
-
Much as I really love the mk5, I think I'd also say swap!
Sounds like you'd be getting a stonking deal.
Can safely say I've seen more ED30's on the road than ED35's, so think they are rarer?

Il wait and see what happens he's got to find the 'perfect' car yet hahaa! :signLOL:
-
I'm not sure I have just got my eddy and I don't think I would like to let it go at the moment :signLOL: sure it would be different if I'd had it a while and got bored of buying things for it (but I haven't yet). This sounds daft though thinking about the price of the 35
-
i belive the ths will yes
It will fit...i took the ths off my ed30 & fitted it to my mk6 golfR
-
Take the newer ed35
It's partially modded
Sell the mods on the ed30
-
Swap... it's a no brainer.. can't believe you're even questioning it :stupid:
Most of the parts will fit across between the cars.. clutch can be resold... I got my scirocco (Mk6 platform) for a steal at the expense of my Golf which I loved and it's a nicer car in every respect. While underneath it is the same car everything you touch, feel/see... is different.. and nicer...
-
I'm a massive massive fan of Ed30's but Ed35 all day, do it!
-
You need help if you don't do it. :stupid:  :happy2:
-
From someone that has been looking to do the same recently, go for it. I personally prefer the Ed35 now, love the front end, with the DRL's. As many have said they are both pretty much the same car underneath and may not feel like a new car.
Financially its a no brainer, yes!!!
-
I'm a huge lover of the mk5, but I'd say that this chance is too good to pass up. You'll miss the mk5 for about a month before you realise you've totally made the right choice.
