Title: 2008 Candy White GTI
Post by: StuF on October 16, 2014, 07:37:27 pm
Hi all,

After selling my old MK5 GTI (see sig) to fund the purchase of my VW EarlyBay camper I have finally managed to get back into another one after rolling a TDI Bora  for 2 years!

I genuinely think I have scored the utter bargain of the century :drinking: - here is the spec

Candy White
3 Door
1 owner (+ex demo)
08 Plate
FSH including all receipts and old mot/tax disks
Bi-Xenon Lights
Heated Leather Recaro GTI badged hardback seats
18'' Monza II wheels with 4xGoodyear Eagle F1 Tyres
Cruise control
Full Highline display
MFSW
Six Speed Manual
Never been tracked, modded, crashed or abused
No mot advisories or issues, still on og exhaust, clutch, flywheel, suspension etc
Pulls strong and clean - no rattles or bangs
Every receipt

Now here is the kicker - rolling around on 167k!  :scared:

Would love someone to guess what I paid!

Since buying I have done the following

Pressed plates - old ones were a little worn and damaged
GTI Plate surrounds
GTI Seat Inserts
Added Bluetooth handsfree and iPhone music streaming through Dension unit - running through RCD300
Various LED Lights - number plate/interior/sidelights etc
Newsouth Performance Boost Gauge (BAR)
Sharan roof Ariel
CF Front VW Badge
Wind deflectors
Interior sun blinds
Forge DV Spacer
MK6 Headlamp switch

Next week it is going into the local Lincs VW specialist for a Cambelt, Waterpump, Full service and Eibach Sportline Spring Kit to be fitted.

Future plans include the following (in no particular order)

Forge TwinTake
Full TBE (inc 200cell cat) - almost certainly from BCS after previous poor Milly experience
HPFP
MK6 Golf Ball Gear Knob
AMD Revision DV
ED30 Rear Lights
REMAP - not sure who by though, maybe REVO
Wheels - I fancy a set of 18'' ROTA Grids
A little paintwork - stonechips need sorting and maybe a bit of colour coding!

And now here are the pics from when I picked her up (before any of my alterations)

Awesome spec and lovely car! Can't believe whoever spec'd it didn't include a centre armrest, as it has pretty much everything else.

Nice spec. Again, it does not look like it's done 167k.

Those seats

Cheers fellas - It is awesome for me to be back driving a GTI again
My summer transport is a 1970 VW EarlyBay fitted with an aircooled 1600 twinport engine so having a lovely modern vehicle is a real treat

My local specialist quoted me between £1000 and £1200 for a clutch and DMF bit i think this is excessive considering the parts are less than £400 online
Any advice appreciated

I paid £3750 for the car and that included a fresh set of fog lamps, 4months tax and 8 months MOT
It was a steal!

Those front seats are worth at least half that by all accounts. :happy2:

Check that cam follower ASAP :happy2:

That was a steal.

Gorgeous car, if it were me I'd change a few bits on it and sell it on for a profit. Split the seats for standard with cash your way and then sell the car. Do the same with xenon lights. Buy another GTI with lower miles.

Orrrrr

Since it's high mileage and it was a steal, run it into the ground and enjoy every minute of it! Good work!

I keep looking at this and thinking where it looks tired, and can't see it... however, you've really got to budget for a Clutch and DMF soon, and defo. check the cam follower as a matter of urgency bud (as you likely know having owned one before).

A few choice mods and servicing, and this is a very, very nice little motor for little cash. :drinking:

As said, you could simply swap those seats out and have the same car for £2500 exposed. :surprised:

Cheers for all the kind words fellas - going to give it a detail this weekend and will take more pics!
The cam follower is getting checked when the cambelt/waterpump and major service is carried out in about 2 weeks time.
As for DMF and clutch - it is in the pipeline but getting quoted £1200 for the work from my local specialist which is a little rich for me at the moment - especially as it is tight as a mouses ear!
 :happy2:

£1200 is a little rich, I've had quotes around £7/800 for my 130k example, it's still going well, so why change them eh?

I'd want that follower out yesterday though. :chicken:

As promised I have taken another couple of pics today showing the overall condition of the vehicle - apart from a couple of stone chips here and there you would have no idea it has been to the moon and back!

Now has a couple of extras installed - like the rear blinds, wind deflectors, pressed plates and so on

I will keep updating when things get changed - next big job is the major service, waterpump, cambelt, sports springs and cam follower replacement!  :happy2:

You are quite right - it is brand new as the previous owner only used the car to travel between construction sites on his own, his wife I believe wasnt a fan of the car and they went out in her own vehicle when travelling as a couple! There is no wear on it - and to be honest the PO was a slim fella who hardly marked the drivers seat! Thrilled with the car so far!

The Dension Pro BT kit has transformed the car too!
Full Bluetooth connectivity, phonebook and caller info on Highline display
Bluetooth music streaming from my iPhone with track listings showing on the highline display
There is even a new digital fuel gauge displayed showing remaining fuel in Litres!

All through a bog standard RCD 300! Very happy  :happy2:

Have a new follower ready, so when they take it out to check, they can replace. If it hasn't been done by that mileage it will be at very least on its least legs. For the sake of £35 it's not worth the risk IMHO.

Unless the last owner was on here, he probably wouldn't have replaced it

Yep - I have one being delivered on Thursday ready for Mondays service etc  :happy2:
The PO wasnt on here - and if he was I doubt I would have been able to afford the car as the price would have been higher!

I have requested the garage retain my old cam follower so I can see the condition - I will take some pics and keep you peeps updated, I would guess it is still on the og one!
