Title: BCS rust
Post by: chris s on October 16, 2014, 09:01:54 pm
Guys, I don't want to be the odd one out as I do love my BCS full exhaust... But I wanted to check if it was right to find a corroded joint on what I thought was a stainless steel exhaust.. I will try to upload a pic but it's on the first joint behind the back box...

Pics? First port of call should be to contact the company in question.

Is that an old system? Can't recall seeing any joins that look like that on mine.

That is the BCS TBE I had fitted in Sept 2011, I dug out the receipt this morning.  I am going to call Nige this morning, as it's not what I would expect for a system that cost the best part of £900.

The join in my pic is [I think from memory] the first join behind the rear box... I don't have access to any ramps / jacks to have a better look / photo but will try to get a better view than the one uploaded

The system is a Blue flame - the flange connector is the givaway... OP back in August 2011

I have a number of hybrid Blue Flame cat back systems available at £795.00 for a short while longer
Kit includes the BCS downpipe and motor sport cat - we also supply a larger front silencer to take the noise down slightly - the overall sound balance is spot on over the stock pipe.
Have a listen here...

Trims are twin 90mm staggered
Cheers
Nige

We were originally offering them before we began manufacturing own own systems - we were originally producing our own DP and cat which mated to it.
The flanges are mild steel which are corroding.
Happy to replace with stainless ones for you
Cheers
Nige

OK, so as I mentioned earlier in this post I spoke with Nigel on this topic, and agreed for me to visit their garage to have the rusty section removed.  In discussions I also decided to have the centre silencer replaced [for a small fee] in an attempt to remove the drone I was experiencing with the exhaust as was.

Over the phone Nigel was nothing but helpful, he totally understood my position and was keen to rectify the issue, which given the age of my system he would have been totally within his rights to refuse.

I drove over to his base on Tuesday, which was a pretty lengthy return trip for one day [7hrs], but at least I would experience the improvements I hoped for on the return.  Upon arrival, his team were spot on and even gave me a mini tour of their new premises [a work in progress], and had a great chat with Nigel about his past and future plans over a coffee.  All this whilst his team immediately took another car off the ramps to start work on mine, but not before walking me through the planned work.

About 90mins later they'd finished and showed me the work before dropping the car, which included a new silencer, a new section to replace the rusty flange and all braces had been replaced for newer design.  It did look a bit 'mix and match', but I could not have expected anything more than I received, and the quality of work was top notch.

The rust was not a performance issue, but more aesthetics and durability, but the new silencer has made all the difference.  With the reduced sound it has somehow made my cars performance more accessible / unnoticeable as it comes without the drama of the old exhaust.

All in all I was nothing but impressed by all in BCS and they certainly know their stuff, and I highly recommend their service and products.

I've had my full system for 2 years, been through everything.

Only issue i've had is that the welding and bends looked far too good to hide under the car. Should have one for the wall really.

Well done Nige and co  :congrats:
