Title: Roof Damage
Post by: mra12345 on October 18, 2014, 08:57:05 pm
Not the best start to the day.  Take the car into VW specialist to get retrofit cruise installed (which is working good btw) but unfortunately ended up with a damaged roof as a result of the  owner driving the aerial into a roller shutter and it then pinging back on the roof of the car.  To be fair he was very apologetic and has said he will contact his premises insurer to get it repaired but I just wondered if anyone had any experience of getting a roof repaired with this kind of damage?

It has a dent where the aerial as pinged into it and various scuff marks on the roof and spoiler.  Read some horror stories about roof repairs already so hoping it is fixable without too much hassle.  I will be contacting my own insurer in the meantime to let them know just to cover myself.

Thanks

Sorry to read about this - not a good day for you!
If I were you I'd check for an appointment / repair with a local dent specialist. I had a firework land on the roof of my mkiv a few years back - it was a right nasty dent in a difficult place.
I rang a local (to me) dent specialist who managed to press it out without any issue at all.

If the paint isn't broken, then you may get away with this type of specialist repair - if the paint is cracked / missing, then insist on a proper bodyshop repair...

Yeah nightmare just in the process of getting my alloys refurbed next week then I'd of been finished for the year with work on the GTI.  I'll hopefully get it sorted out next week without too much stress, just could of done without it!
