Booked in with R-tech - bring on the 230 mile round trip!! (Basingstoke - Hinckley)
-
:notworthy:
That's a fair trip. Think Dean Sutherland holds the record coming from Glasgow
If you are on Facebook, Niki has started a group called "TFSI tuning" - add yourself too it!
-
Have just joined mate nice one!
Wow Glasgow!!!
I didn't even look at local tuners, just new about a year back that R-tech was the one for me, health check and custom map for less than a generic map. Plus the fact that the team are still exploiting the 2.0 TFSI engine even though it is now somewhat dated gives me peace of mind that they know these engines inside out and their methods are thoroughly tried and tested.
Not sure who I spoke to on the phone but he was very friendly and helpful.
Booked in at 12pm so don't have to get up mad early plus I can miss the traffic :driver:
Cam follower is getting replaced this weekend, DV is Rev G (replaced a few months ago) and I think the PCV is all good.
Can't wait!!!
-
Remove your pre-cat too :happy2:

I would do mate but it will invalidate my insurance!
Currently covered by Prestige on here for a remap up to 270 bhp.

Is yours an ed30?
If it's just a normal GTI, even with pre-cat removed you wouldn't get anywhere near 270bhp.
With pre-cat removed & panel filter you will get around 250bhp (I got 248).
An edition 30 will map to around 295-300bhp without any mods
-
Just a GTI, originally I was going for stage 2 but my plans changed!
-
Should I go for a DSG map too? Not sure what the benefits are...

Should I go for a DSG map too? Not sure what the benefits are...
Yes!
Means it can Rev to the limiter, gives you more control in manual mode (doesn't auto shift).
Niki will do you a deal if you have a DSG & engine map :happy2:
-
Yeah I am considering it, just want to have a chat with NG in terms of benefits.
Ideally what I am after is:
- D = eco mode, so remap stock map to increase efficiencies, i.e. increase MPG
- S = sport/race mode, give it some Gower Power for when I'm feeling the need for speed
Not yet used the paddles in my car :scared:
Is this sort of thing possible?
I think by bringing the DSG into play it will make the above more achievable, but need to speak with the main man to see what's possible.
-
I dont think you can have the box remapped to control the engine ECU map :sad1:
DSG remap typcially increases clamp load on the clutch packs (vital for big power setups), it makes the shifts faster and smoother, lets engine rev to limiter (easier for NG to tune) and allows you to set the Launch control RPM.
I think it removes hesitation when pulling away too (no doubt along with some other benefits)
Get plenty of pics and a review of your day :happy2:
-
Thanks for that!
Will do mate.
Is Launch Control included in the DSG map? I have no idea what revs I should be looking at, 3,000?
-
Yes it is - launch control is there as standard with DSG anyway (you can use it right now), the launch RPM can be set with the DSG remap
Niki will tell you what works best anyway :happy2:

I was going from Newbury to Rtech...or would have been if I wasn't late!!!! So ended up going to bedford :(
You'll love the results.
Just got back from Darkside which was a 450 mile round trip :( 2 days there though so wasn't all that bad
A few years ago I had to drive up there for a 20 minute map tweak.. haha    never again.. :fighting2: :fighting2:
-
OK thanks never tried to use it, guess I'll wait for the summer!
Xjay I remember reading your story, was a shame!
I aim to leave at 9 so hopefully will get there with time to spare.
-
Today I had a stage one remap and DSG map, this is how it went down.
I left home at 9am armed with a baguette, hobnobs for the lads, wooly hat and scarf and a near enough full tank of 99 momentum. I highly recommend wrapping up warm!
Leaving at 9am meant that I should have arrived with about 45 minutes to spare, but the traffic and roadworks were quite bad as was the weather. I arrived at 11.45, when NG was finishing off an R32 (MK4), they looked pleased with the results and it sounded amazing!
My car was put on to the ramp for a health check (DV was removed checked and put back in) whilst I signed the disclaimer and wrote down what I wanted done, linear stage one and a dsg. All clear and NG did his thing. Stock was 210 bhp 224 torque, mapped 253 bhp 305 torque!
We were done by 2.30.pm when NG test drove it, then I test drove. The difference is amazing, the car is so much more driveable and responsive, power on tap!
Well worth the journey, friendly bunch of guys with plenty of banter!
Forgot to get my R-tech stickers though :scared:

@akbarirfan (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8735) I'm glad you enjoyed the R-Tech experience :happy2:
I guess he took you out in it and explained what he has done? Once of my favourite parts of the experience. Feels weird to be sitting in the passenger seat while someone thrashes your newly-tuned pride & joy :signLOL:
Glad you got everything you were after
-
Overall I am happy with the experience, but I did not get a chance to discuss much, I just wrote what I wanted down on the disclaimer form and that was it, rather than go through what be accomplished - this would have taken 10 minutes at most!!!
Niki took it for a test drive and then I took it for a test drive (both individually) post remap.
We had a quick chat afterwards but really would have appreciated talking to Niki before hand.
When I arrived, I parked up and that was it really!! Somewhat annoyed as when I called up I was told I would get a chance to speak to Niki/whoever before the map if I arrived early to discuss my requirements.
My advice would be to try and get hold of Niki before handing over you keys, as after that point the chain is up and you won't get the opportunity until post-remap.
