Title: Washer jets.
Post by: Top Cat on November 11, 2009, 10:32:11 pm
Just remembered i have a fault with mine.

Before i start all the haters please ignore.

OK my car gets a regular soaping, couple this with being parked in the garage at all times and only gets driven in the rain if i get caught out.

My car is about 18 months old and i have only used the windscreen washer about 6 times.  :ashamed:

I tried using it the other day and it wasn't playing ball so i thought it must be empty. Filled it up with VW's finest but alas still not working.  :booty:

So is this a common fault, does anyone have any ideas of were or what the fault is.
I dont fancy a trip to the stealer's even if it is warranty claim.  :scared:

Can you hear the pump for washer jets going when try using them?  Also is there a small dribble of liquid coming out of them?

If the answer to both the above is yes I think you may have a blockage in your tubes.  Had the same thing on my previous A3 and the dealer unblocked them by blowing air at a high pressure through the tubes.

Cant here myself think in the cabin. Bloody blueflame.  :signLOL:

Thanks for advice i will have a proper check. My guess is a tube blockage, through lack of use.  :happy2:

If the rear washer works ok then it may also be worthwhile checking that the washer tubing hasn't disconnected itself somewhere under the bonnet.

I had this problem TC, its not the pipes or washer motor, its the jets which just clip into the underside of the bonnet, I think they were around £3ish each, dont know exact price but remember them being 'cheap', I bought two new little blighters and bobs your uncle   :happy2:

Not to sure about that, we did get free double glazing and free milk though.  :signLOL:

I can confirm that my rear wiper doesn't work either.

It crystalises and gunks up, just pop the jets off, soak them in boiling water for a while and blow back down the tubes to ensure they're clear.

Strangely enough this happened to me the other day too after Dom turned my rear wiper off with VCDS. We thought that we were just disabling it from automatically coming on when reverse was selected and it was raining!

It feels good to fix things on your own car Ed, try the below advice and adjusting the jet its easy peasy.  :happy2:

oh yea it feel amazing, but i shouldn't have to!!! i dont work 12hour shifts, pay stupid amounts of insurance, buy a nice car to then have to go around fixing it!!

tbh i already took a look and nearly took the jets off to take a look then it started raining so i didnt need them anymore!
