Interesting features on the MKV Golf
•Climate control system switches into recirculated air mode when reverse is selected and when you activate the wipers to prevent exchaust gas and the smell of the windscreen cleaner from being distributed in the cabin.
•Headlights turn on when you exceed 140km/h.
•Headlights will stay on until the car comes to a complete stop even if the engine is turned off.
•Rear wiper activates automatically when you put the car in reverse and it’s raining.
•Front wipers change position every time you switch off the car to avoid having the blades leaning in the one direction all the time and extending their life. There are 4 positions that they park in.
•At speed the front wipers tuck in to increase aerodynamic efficiency.
•Permanent vertical illumination of the controls via the interior LED lights was the resut of a study with the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany which found found that certain light sources in the interior can increase active safety when driving at night. The eyes can adjust more quickly to changes when switching from the road to the interior. This is especially important with dark headlining like the GTI.

Nice one demon666 some cool features there I never knew about any of them - Volkswagen do come up with some brilliant ideas.
I like the wipers thats clever stuff.
I thought the leds were for looks didnt really ever understand why they were there but now i know :happy2:
If anyone else has any cool features like this please share
-
Nice one :happy2:
I didn't know about the headlights coming on at 140 km/h

It took me years before I discovered that when you unclip the sun visor and turn it to the side that it is actually extendable if you pull on it! Handy feature sometimes.
-
I knew a couple of those, but makes you feel like you got your moneys worth when you realise how much effort they put into these cars.

Have to certainly agree with you Dan, German built = best built!
Get more hidden goodies for your monies :)

Prob a feature on most cars but if I keep my finger on the lock button all the windows and sunroof close.

Thats cos they also open when you hold unlock :happy2:
-
If just unlock the boot with the command and open it, it will self-lock when you close it.
-
always good to find out you have got your moneys worth :drinking:

Not 100% sure it's on the MK5 but was on my MK2 Leon which shares the same platform so...
Brake Disc Wipers - when it's raining and the wipers are on the brakes are automatically applied to the discs at set intervals to clear any water film. The result is increased brake efficiency in the wet.

Well blow me down......I drive North on the morning and South in the evening and the low sun through the side windows always gets me each time, the visor was always too short......well until now :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:

Prob a feature on most cars but if I keep my finger on the lock button all the windows and sunroof close.
They can also be coded so that when you press and hold the lock button, as soon as they start to shut you can let go of the button and they'll carry on closing :happy2:

That would be useful, do you have a link to the VCDS procedure to do that bud?

you dont need it. you program it by using the window switches

Anyone care to pop up the procedure for coding via the switches?

There may have been a little confusion with my last post. The method I describe for total closure is via the lock button on the key and as far as I'm aware can only be coded with VCDS.
So for those who are interested:
Go into 46 Central Convenience
Then to Byte 6
Check Bit 6 Comfort Function Automatic Closing.
This option may be located in a different byte/bit depending on your CCM.
:happy2:

it wasn't your message.... it was this from demon666 'you dont need it. you program it by using the window switches'....

Thanks for checking back.
I'll hook it up tomoz see if I can get it working.
For the record I have the usual closure/opening when deep pressing the button, but only when keeping it down throughout... your method is much better imo, I've been wanting that for a while tbh.
-
It works, cheers, useful mod.
Mine was in 46 / 7 / 6
Shame it doesn't do it for up and down, but up is the important one.

mine does? you push and hold the relevant button and it locks and the windows go up/down

But do they finish going all the way up/down when you take your finger off the button or do you have to keep it pressed to fully open/close them?

I don't think this feature made it onto the mk5, but certainly did on the mk6... when I had my R, I saw the option in long coding; not the case on my R32

Wow that's cool how does that work do the pads touch the discs ever so slightly??

Another handy feature which requires coding is if the windows are down, car locked and the auto rain / light sensor is on - if it rains the sensor detects that and automatically closes the windows!!

the alarm would go off if it was locked with the windows open?

If you have volumetric alarm sensors if they sense movement the alarm will go off. For example, if you put your hand inside.
The rain closing function will close all windows, even the sunroof.
-
If press the alarm button twice it disables the interior sensor and keeps the perimeter armed so the windows can stay open - that's my understanding of that feature.

I thought I was going mad! Could never figure out what the noise was when I use the windscreen washers.

I don't believe this is correct; if you lock the car and press the lock button twice within a second or two, the deadlocks will be disabled. To deactivate the interior sensors, there is a button on the drivers' door pillar :happy2:

that makes a little more sence

A hidden function of the dual temperature climatronic system:
1 Hold down 'ECON' and press the 'up vent' button (it's next to recirculation). Release both buttons when both temp displays show zero.
2 Turn the left temp knob until the display on that side shows 19.0
3 Turn the fan knob until the left temp display shows 19'1.
The temp display on the driver's side is now a digital speedometer reading in mph.
Using the same method, you can enter the codes below for other readings:
1'0 Interior temperature (as detected by the sensor located in the fan speed knob)
1'4 Interior light intensity (measured by sensor in same location)
4'0 External temp (front bumper sensor)
4'1 External temp (roof) - no, I don't know where that one's hidden!
4'2 External temp (rear bumper)
15'0 Oil temperature
19'0 Speed (km/h)
19'1 Pay attention - that's explained above.
19'2 Coolant temp
19'3 Rev counter (x100rpm)
19'4 Oil pressure
25'0 Voltage
Here's how to reset to normal operation:
Press 'ECON' twice.

That will come in useful.
Going to try that later because mine blows different temps from drivers to passenger side.

How did you realise that you had different temperatures? I've got a mental image of you sitting on the armrest with a foot in each footwell!

Just realised today on my dsg if you put your foot all the way down on your accelerator and click the button behind it, it down shifts the gear.

Kickdown. :happy2: Depending on your speed and current it'll drop 1, 2 or even 3 gears. Might even drop 4 if you happen to boot it when cruising in sixth.

If you press and hold / press the mileage trip reset button when turning the ignition on, it tells you how many miles / days until your next service

It's a feature that was introduced in automatic gear boxes a long time ago.

6th to 4th you mean.
Mine's pretty speedy at dropping gears so I rarely have to hit the kickdown button. A quick jab of the accelerator and it'll happily drop into 3rd from 6th.

Just reset the service warning:
1. Keys out of ignition- press and hold in trip odometer reset button "0.0" on right hand side of display
2. Still holding this button down, insert key into ignition and put to the on position without starting the car.
3. Display will read "service now"
4. let go of the "0.0" button and depress the "m" button on the left hand side of the display. this will re-set the service reminder. There is no confirmation on the display other than the words "service now" will disappear.
You can confirm that the service reminder has been reset, or check how many kms/days remain until service at any time by taking key out of the ignition and holding in the trip reset "0.0" button for between 3 and 5 seconds. The MFD will display miles and hours until next service.

Weird. Iv done it twice without any problems. Once by accident and once to test it out
