I'm not massively into cleaning my car, I'd rather be driving it. However, I found myself free this afternoon, so decided to tackle my filthy exhaust.
Quite a satisfying way to spend the afternoon. Still want to revisit it and get it even cleaner
Before and after...

So what did you use then?

So what did you use then?
Was about to ask the same question haha my exhaust was black and had to use wet and dry to clean it but struggling to polish the scratches out!
-
Im also interested in what you used on them mate as look spot on!
Tried cleaning mine but still not happy with them!
Thinking of going to local power flow fabricators and getting them to weld some stainless tips on for me :-)
Problem then solved forever as original tips are mild steel

brasso or silvo will do a good job :happy2:

Thanks guys. There are still a few black speckles that I want to get rid of, but I'm pleased with the result.
I bought myself some Autosol metal cleaner from my local car spares shop (£3.99) and then add a few bits from Home Bargains. Scouring pads, some cloths and for some reason, a dishmatic.
Technique was apply> scrub> repeat. Occasional polish with the cloth. Overall cost was about a fiver plus elbow grease!
Afterwards I gave the car a quick wash as it looked wrong!
Well worth a try - get yours posted!

Oh and the dishmatic was awesome for the "scrub" stage/s.

Autosol is good, used it before with good effect.. as long as it hasn't been left too long to etch into the metal, it can be brought back.. evidence above, good work mate :D
-
I have found T Cut good for removing the stubborn stuff off chrome/stainless exhaust tips.
-
Always use autosol...very good
-
Use 000 grade wire wool with a decent metal polish, it won't scratch.

:congrats:
nice work Dave.. +5bhp points to you.... :happy2:

Thanks ;)
Not sure about the +5bhp though. I will have to get it RR'd as i am expecting 10-15bhp gain.

I used a few bits from Home Bargains and no scratches on mine - worked a treat. Get yourself down your local supermarket and all will be fine :-)

On the off chance, and after trying many products, I tried a Magic Eraser from the Flash household section and it was absolutely amazing! A quick dip in a bucket of water to activate the soapy stuff inside and it removed all the baked on black stuff with no effort at all (I've sweated over my tips often enough). Quick wash off and polish/wax and you're good to go. The active 'ingredient', if you like, is melamine foam which is a microscopic abrasive so don't go wailing on the bird poop on your paintwork with it.
OT it looks like it could be a great glass cleaner but I'll test it with a microscope and a glass slide before and after to check it's OK first.

Cheers for the tip with the Flash gear ... :happy2:
anyone ever used autosol for this btw?
