Title: Which gadget/s?

Hi all,

I'm after something/s to do the following:

Watch freeview
Record freeview
Play DVDs
Set series record
Catch up on old programs

What is the best combination of gadgets to do this? I already have a TV but if it's worth upgrading to a smart TV to check some of the list off, then I will
